Need advice on "Sabotage the outpost" missions.

So, just decided to try one of those "disable the generator at an outpost" missions.

The generator was on a raised platform with a ramp leading up to it, blocked by a force-field.
I gained access to it simply by hopping my SRV up onto the platform, ignoring the ramp, disabled the generator and then just made a run for it.
Mission accomplished.

However...

I noticed that there were a bunch of computer uplink terminals (I forget what they're called) dotted around the outpost perimeter.
When I accessed one I got a timer counting down from 55s to zero.
If I got to another one before the countdown reached zero it'd reset the countdown to 1:10 and re-start counting down.

Presumably, the idea is to make your way around every terminal before the counter reaches zero?
Anybody know what that actually accomplishes?
Is that, perhaps, how you're supposed to disable the force-field blocking the ramp or does it disable the outpost's gun turrets and/or skimmers or something else?

I monkeyed around with the terminals for about 10 minutes but I don't think I managed to achieve whatever it was I was supposed to do with them.

So, I'm assuming I managed to skip some part of the supposed procedure but I was wondering what those perimeter terminals are actually intended for in case I actually NEED to do it in a future mission.

I think it's bugged, could be wrong. I think they're supposed to disable the security. some of the data link things can unlock the forcefields though, the more rounded shaped ones.

If you scan all of those terminals (there can be 1 to 6 in an installation), you'll be rewarded with a data package which can be sold for credits, and/or data materials which can be used for Engineering. For instance, they're a great source for Cracked Industrial Firmware, which is something a lot of Cmdrs require.
