Need Advice

Hey I was just thinking about getting a type 9 for mostly trading but I need some help on how I should fit the thing or if it’s even worth it so if someone could help me out that would be great.

Check out coriolis.io. it'll let you go through every load out for every ship. What it's not awesome about showing, is how horrible the stupid thing turns in supercruise. It takes a lot of getting used to!

T9 is hard to evade interdictions
So make sure you fit strong shields and eventually a SLF hangar to distract the pirates while you make your way out

You're going to be a sitting duck when you get interdicted. Heat-sinks help break target lock, so always fire one immediately after your first boost. Apart from that, make it as fast and strong as possible.

Something like this might survive an encounter with a pirate.
But this is not a guarantee.

A deadly Anaconda will be able to ruin your day unless you manage to make your escape asap

Sorry I just looked at this but that does seem doable with how many credits I have right Now but I think I’ll give it a try and see how I like it

Never use a ship that isn't properly outfitted for the task in hand. A weak T9 is a death trap. Also you need some knowledge and experience to be sure to get away from interdictors. I wouldn't use one for LTDs or other expensive cargo unless you know how to succeed. A T7 would be safer.

For interdictions, submitting should be fine for most NPC pirate encounters. Boost away and even with a full hold you'll be in supercruise again before you take more than a couple of hits.

I use a T-9 for big haul tasks, mainly Operation Ida station repairs. Its fun to fly once you get used to the massiveness of the thing. However its the worst ship for evading interdictions and even struggles to evade NPC interdictions. Best to have another system locked in, submit to interdiction, drop heatsinks and chaff, and high wake the hell out of there. With this in mind, its best to avoid mission-type cargo runs as you will attract pirates. Don't even bother mounting guns, if you use them you've already lost.

The Imperial Cutter can at lease defend itself, but its crazy expensive and locked behind a rank grind.

Type-7 is a great trader. Smaller cargo capacity, but you will win every NPC interdiction and even some player interdictions. Similar to the T-9, no point packing guns really.

Type-10 is a good option if you like the big heavy handling and also want the ability to defend yourself.

I tested that for a beginners video I was making about mining using an unengineered T9. I wouldn't recommend it. That technique works fine for most ships, but not an unengineered T9.

Back when I was flying a stock unshielded T9 I never had trouble any time NPCs interdicted me while hauling mission cargo. Players in open, sure, I'd never try that. But for basic solo grinding, folks who are new to this should be fine... Mining-wise I've only ever done it in a Cutter, so couldn't say, but as long as the same principles apply as back when I was mining for engineer unlocks, of flying away from your entry point before starting to avoid NPC spawns, then this should still be viable for staying safe on the return trip to stations, with the bonus that if you're mining you're probably also packing shields, which won't even drop before you make it back into supercruise after submitting.
