Need an Honest Opinion.

Greetings All,

I need some honest opinions about this game. I'm on the edge of buying it.
Need the Pros and the cons of Buying the game.
Is there any Aussie players? Whats the connection like?
Is it Justified for $95 AUD.

Please I would appreciate real answers to put my doubts are ease.

Thank you,

PhantomR

look at it this way

1) its not a quick game to learn
2) its as hard as it gets in combat scenes and takes a long time to master
3) you will still be playing it in 10 years time if you like it

I started to play elite in 1985 it was and still is in the doom quake gta league its a keeper but the learning curve is very steep

hope this helps

I joined PB and im still getting burned and dead after 10 weeks

Honestly.

No, wait for the release or Gamma (if they offer Gamma up for early access).

Anyone who has to ask themselves the question of whether to buy ED in it's current state, is likely to become frustrated with it's Beta state.

There is no advantage now (as the lifetime expansion pass has expired) to buying early. Unless you enjoy Beta testing, you might as well wait for the complete game, pay less money and enjoy it in it's entirety after reading a plethora of (hopefully) glowing release reviews. :)

Keep in mind that you are buying access to an unfinished product, one that will ruin your day sometimes, or will change over time as to how it's played, and one that is without a formal instruction manual.

Knowing all that, this is a solid product even in beta form. Not perfect, not polished, but it's very playable and very immersive.

If you've read all that's been talked about, good and bad, if you've seen all the videos out, both the good and the bad stuff, and you're still interested, then go for it. If you're still not sure, then at least you have others sharing their gameplay that you can follow along with until it becomes more of a finalized game.

Some people will say its not worth it because its an incomplete game.
You are paying to test a beta at the minute.

Or like I think of it I'm paying for a game that wont be released for another 4 or so month but I can have an early taste and help be a part of its development.

It depends how you look at it.

I have spent 100 hours in the beta, and thats less than 1 AUD an hour and I dont even have the full game yet which I imagine would be quite easily playable for a decade. Theres big future plans for the game and an ever expanding universe,

So for cost per hour gameplay you could probably never get better value anywhere else.

There is australian players, I have never heard any complaints, it probably works better than most other online games you play in australia because you arent getting shipped over to servers somewhere in Asia. It uses P2P, so its works as if it was a local server.

But its a beta, its still a work in progress, you may get network problems, you will lose progress, you will lose everything.

If you try to play it like a complete game in its present state I imagine you will be making a thread in 5 days time how you feel you have been conned.

If you can remember its a beta, try to imagine the potential, prepared for bugs you will probably get alot of entertainment out of it.

No, wait for the release or Gamma

Wise words.

Watch people play it via Twitch, watch some YouTube videos, read the forum, but most importantly wait for new features to be added - right now it's in good shape but if I was to list the features missing (compared to implemented) I would be here all day.

I'd say it depends on what you want out of it.

If you want a full game with all the bells and whistles then wait for the final release.

If you want something that's only a portion completed, but you enjoy being part of the beta process, taking the game to its limits, trying to find exploits and bugs to report them (or keep them secret for the main release) then I think you'd enjoy it.

One thing to remember is that none of anything you do will carry over from this stage into the final release, so it is literally just assisting with the development at the moment while honing your flying skills.

I fully agree with the above. At the moment the game looks fantastic, you can see the potential, and its quite good fun for people who are used to the Elite games - trading and fighting etc. But the fact is its also severely stripped down at the moment with the bare bones of many features - missions, equipment, ships are all minimal at the moment. the features such as bounty hunting, combat, trading, piracy are all rather limited in play scope as well.

Personally I am having a balst jus travelling around, doing the odd trading, upgrading my ship, and visiting all the locations in the game, looking at the stars (which mostly seem to be all the same so far), looking at some of the planets, watching the traffic etc. Its all immersive and atmospheric, its going to be a great game. But for people who are expecting a complete game stay away for a few more months because it just aint there yet.

So yes I fully agree with the fact that if you are asking whether to buy then dont. For me it was a matter of not being able to stay away any longer. I dont regret spending the extra £15 to play it now. But I can see a time in the near future when I will need to leave it alone for a few weeks [possibly months] to mature a bit more.

The game, when it works, is very good. yes it's unfinished and there's obviously lots missing, but it's very playable and fun.

When it doesn't work, as it just hasn't for me as I've suffered yet another hyperspace lock-up, it can be a bit frustrating. But it is a beta, and the purposes of bet testing a game is to find bugs.

The atmosphere is there, the flight "feels" right, the sound is amazing. The scale of it all is second to none, and stations and docking are simply one of the most enjoyable space experiences you can have right now.

There is a lot still to come however, and it shows because aside from trading, hunting pirates and helping capital ships in distress there's not a lot to do just yet. Is it worth paying extra to play the game now instead of in a few months? I can't answer that for you.

I can only say that I got into alpha back when the first combat footage was shown, and I have not regretted it - bugs and all. And yes there are quite a few of those, especially with regards to multiplayer. But the core of the game is already extremely polished.

If you're a space nerd and you need something cool to play right now, I say go for it. If you are looking for a feature-complete experience, wait for release.

I received the game as a present but in truth if I was paying I may have contained my excitement and held off a bit. Personally, I would suggest that you wait the few months. Whilst I'm very much enjoying the Beta I suspect that I'll have to watch myself so as I don't burn out before the official release.

I ummed and arrd for a good while. Took the plunge and am really enjoying it. Navigating the systems, trying to dock etc. just brings back the memories and the tranquility of space. Yes, there are bugs but to be fair, the way this game plays now in beta compared to most games i have played in beta and early release, it is very polished.

The game breaker for me is just the tree and the hula noddy things on the dashboard!!!! #iwantmore#

It's an awesome game and only getting better as it develops BUT it's not something you can master in a few days. Frequently people complain it's too hard. That's been the complaint about ALL of the elite games since 1984 but it's also what keeps bringing those who love it back for more.

You should know too that ED is not Eve V2. While PvP is a part of ED it's only a small part, the game is intended to be primarilly co-op and can even be played in a single player online mode.

So should you buy it now? If you don't have a history of playing elite, if you don't like testing buggy, incomplete software, or if you are looking for something you can master in a few hours and shoot up other people then probably not. If you want to play a game with history and you like cooperative trade based games then you should wait for the release version. If you want to test and perhaps have a small part in the direction the game takes then join in now.

Oh and yes I'm an aussie. I use optus cable and get very little - if any - lag... initial connections can take a couple of minutes occasionally.

If you were to get the lifetime expansion as well, I would say buy it now but since that ship has sailed, you are better off playing Oolite until the game is released or if you enjoy Oolite enough that you wsmt to dive in early, wait for gamma. This game should be the last game you ever buy if you like this genre.

Thank you for your help. I will continue to watch Lets Plays on the new beta to decide what to do.

I do enjoy participating in Early Access and Betas. Currently a large DAYZ player :p

Well, another way to see how well you can withstand frustrations is to visit the beta support forums and the elite support forums and see what problems people are facing.

if you can still say you are up to it, then go on ahead.
Sometimes, I find watching videos being quite different as they are usually success "stories" of people playing elite dangerous, except for some videos that are trying to scold elite for its flaws.

Just my opinion.
