Need anti shield tank pvp build

Hi all

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but after the last two weeks of being constantly destroyed by cutter shield tanks in the CG im looking to build a ship that counters the ridiclous shield strength. I have been using a maxed out engineered chieftan with rails and PA and even in a wing it barely touches the shields. Whats the best money and engineering no object build that will counter these , perhaps not take them down but at least be some sort of danger where at the moment they almost just sit still and take it knowing that i cant barely damage them , even 3 of us in a wing it taes time to get one ring down.

thanks.

Two Cutters tried ganking me in the Pirate 5 earlier today. I'm was in a Chieftain with all frags. Made one run away and ran out of ammo on the second, so I made a retreat, but I don't think I would've won anyway (I was also at 50% Hull and he had nearly 2 rings of shields left). Chaff and outmaneuvering them helped. Cutter CMDRs rarely run fixed hardpoints.

If you're running PAs and rails (especially with feedback cascade) you're basically running the best anti-shield weapons already. There's reverb torps, but they are gimmicky yolo weapons in ED.

I really don't know what else to tell you. The Shield Meta just makes fighting Vettes and Cutters a war of attrition.

Pirate 5 and up is like shooting at tanks with a peashooter I don’t know what mod they’re using, I got g5 shields with all the eng. mods and still I’m losing my shields very fast and they hardly lose theirs.

Torpedoes are the quick way, but they have a pretty high opportunity cost and leave one vulnerable to smaller ships.

Just staying out of their cone of fire is usually perfectly possible with most medium ships (and a drag frag will make this significantly easier). Unless the cutter has significant laser turret coverage, it will eventually be forced to retreat; deplete their SLFs first then keep on them to prevent synthesis.

The Cutter is the most expensive ship in the game, and it requires a rank unlock just to get it. It's also a lot more intensive to fully engineer.

I guess I'm a bit confused why your Chieftain, one of the cheapest easily-accessed medium combat ship in the game, should be able to defeat such a thing.

You're attacking the battleship Bismark in a dingy while complaining about it's "ridiculous" defenses. I think what's ridiculous is your approach to PVP.

Would cytoscramblers be effective? Legit question as I don't PvP and I have no experience with cytoscramblers.

Yeah you could have one ship with Cyto's to beat down the shields fast, those are brutal against shields. Then a feedback Rail guy to cancel out the SCB's on the Cutter etc etc. I mean, there are ways.

The best way is to rebalance things, both shields, hulls and weapons. The game desperately needs it. Don't need to butcher things, just tweaks here and there to keep shield bloat in check, make cannons worth it again, make hull tanks viable etc.

No way to balance things where the OP would be happy, for example, and doesn't leave the Cutter pilot thinking he just spent a small fortune for a beached space-whale that's only useful for mining or hauling goods.

If huge ships don't have huge defenses...I'm not sure what the point of them would be.

I don't PVP. Yet I have zero confidence that FDEV could "balance" PVP without severely impacting how I enjoy the game.

Sadly I think you're correct. Look how they botched the Anaconda.

But do you agree that something should be done to scale back this shield meta and make hull tanking a viable alternative? Some ships are designed for it but it doesn't work.

all of the above is very true, situation is ridiculous imho.

one thing you might consider is taking shieldbypassing phasing sequence lasers. not that you gonna destroy a cutter that way, but their repair costs will be higher than yours.

Okay but we lose a ton of shield HP by not having full pips to SYS, which we can't do in combat because we need to power our weapons. How do you make hull tanking viable, without it being completely overpowered and just a new OP "meta"? No pip juggling, less power plant needed etc etc. It has so many advantages, they just HAD to nerf it obviously.
