Need bit of advice on getting a back-up & carefree ship

I'm in a A rated fully engineered Python. Love it. But when I'm in tough combat missions involving back to back dogfights, or in combat zones I constantly tremble to the idea of losing the ship.

I mean, she is a beast and fights exceptional, but there sooner or later comes a moment that I underestimate the situation and my holoradar is filled with a dozen of flashing red triangles before I understand it. Up to now in these cases I managed to -barely- escape, but I know that the "eject-eject-eject" moment won't be far... And more than the 11 mil rebuy cost I tremble to the idea of losing her...lol.

So I thought that instead of going the normal procedure and aim next for one of the big three, I better buy and A rate a small fighter. Something with an acceptable rebuy cost. I was between Viper III, Eagle, Imp Eagle or Imp Courier. Now my 2nd ship was a Viper mk4 so I don't want a similar ship, I would like smthing different.

So any advice? I tend to Imp Courier, but maybe the rebuy cost for an A rated one is high?

Naw. An A rated fighter class barely breaks 500K if it even comes anywhere NEAR such.

So depending on how well you're doing, you can lose a dozen of the things before you go bankrupt.

Fighter class ships were designed to be disposable given their fragility. Even A rated ones will explode and their price range is generally much less then Gunship class or higher.

The eagles are a tad fragile for combat zones.

Go for the courier. Great shields, nice handling, tiny hitbox, fun little ship. You'll learn a lot flying it that will help you to avoid damage even in larger ships.

You can also go for the Vulture, which has insane agility and has 2 large weapons. Awesome for hunting big game.

you cannot lose your ship, only a 5% of the cost at most, which, if you think about it, is just ridiculous. just keep that amount x3 always on your account for rebuys and stop worrying.

that's a very good decision anyway! small ships are incredibly fun and cheap. go ahead and try them all. start with the eagle or the viper, it will be more challenging in cz, you will earn less money, but you will learn a lot, to fly and to laugh at rebuys. also, some light engineering will already make a big difference.

I have 2 combat backups for my Python. Vette and FDL (for when there are no L Pads around)
Vette effectively has 0cr rebuy, as it is impossible to kill in PvE

Easy option for me. Vulture. Still use it in CZs and HasRes when just having a bit of fun rather than grinding out max kills.

Fit it right and just leave when shields go down, or stay to finish off opponents then leave if you fancy.

I’ve only died in them when not paying attention or being over confident, and comparatively cheap lesson learnt from that.

If it's rebuy you are worried about then a Viper III, however it is a big step down from the Python in terms of firepower but fun to fly. Same with the DBS which is possibly more fun.

Personally I'd go for the Vulture, great ship, agile, tough, two large hard points, not too expensive, flies great in Res sites and CZ's. It's a bit tight for fitting even with an A rated power plant but a bit of engineering would sort that out.....that would be my recommendation.

After that you are into the likes of the FAS, FGS, FDL, which when fully a rated won't be too far off the same rebuy as your python.

Surprised no one has mentioned the viper 4 as it is basically a mini python. Similar flight model and can CZ well due to decent shields and sheer tankiness. A moderately engineered thruster set will see you havinf a lot of fun

A well equipped Fer de Lance makes conflict zones pretty easy for me. Four SCBs along with 4 Heat Sinks rounds it out nicely when one makes a mistake. Once up to speed they are not needed much.

A cheap and fun option is the DBS.

Great weapon placement and manoeuvrability. Pack the internals with HRPs and just enjoy yourself.

You will get destroyed, as it's not up for a pounding, but it is a complete hoot to fly.

My tuppence.

I was gonna say the Viper 4 too, but it was mentioned already by the op:

FDL is more fun for pew pew (I spent 18 months flying python primarily).

You will need to upgrade FSD and Thrusters to get yourself out of trouble as quickly as you got in it!
