Need Help, Cannot plot route, Do not know why?

HI! I just bought a new ship but I am stuck because I cannot seem to no longer plot a route. If I leave and try to jump I get " Cannot jump, drive fuel exceets limit by 1.2 tons..

So I though I need more fuel storage so I bought Fuel tanks. I have now 2 x capacity 16 and 2 x capacity 4 fuel tanks and I still exceed the limit!!!..
MY Frame shift Drive is a C 3
My cargo is a 16 + 4 = 20 ( I am only using 11 out of 20 )
My Mass is 282.5 out of 420.0T

My jump range is 3.79y unladen and 3.64y current and 3.53y laden.
HOW do I increase my jump range?

I have only 3 guns ( no turrents no launchers, no nothing.. )

Can anyone shed some light on this? I really do not know how to proccedd..

Your ship has a maximum jump range so no matter how much fuel you carry it can only expend X tons per jump.
So even if I stocked up on 400 tons of fuel in an Anaconda I can still only travel its maximum usage so can't jump 500Ly at a time.

Try and target a closer system or travel a roundabout route.

If you build your ship in a builder (example here):
http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=701,5QG5QG,2-3w3w3w2M2M2M22,7Og03w2Uc

You can see the maximum distance in the top right (Ly). Have a play and see how distance changes with weight and cargo.

Edit:
The short answer is less weight or better Frame Shift Drive.
Note the number of the module is its size. So if you are flying a ship that really requires a class 4 FSD and you have a C3 then you have an undersized one.

Try creating your ship in this site and see what it suggests your jump range is with various cargo loads and other components. With such a short jump range, though, you might find there isn't another system within range, so you'll have to increase your jump range one way or another (better Frame Shift Drive or shed weight, depending on the station's stock level and your budget).

You probably have a Class 4 FSD and you mounted a Class 3.
It's the only component on a ship that you can downgrade otherwise you have a verrryyyyyyy jump range and you get stuck in the systems you are

What ^ Dwardeen said ... the message about 1.2tons of fuel needed is the maximum fuel charge that your specific FSD can take. It also determines the maximum distance that you can jump in a single bound. I don't know nor I have seen a chart for which class FSD has what fuel charge size.. but that being said, there are two navigations configuration in the star maps. Fastest or economical. The economical setting will use less fuel overall to any given target at the expense of time. (stopping at each system aligning for the next target, then charging the FSD and jumping) The fastest costs more fuel for the same trip but its over in a single jump. This is at the cost of more fuel used for the same over all jump with a limit of how many tons of fuel your FSD can hold for a single jump.

ref

and to expand on my what my Slippery friend above said, if you can afford it, (i.e. do NOT compromise your insurance monies) always get the "A" class of the rated size for your FSD, & Power Distributer. These two items at their largest will get you far.

I think your right,, crappppppp.. I made a mistake..

And there is none class 4 where I am either... I am at "ANY NA" Libby orbital ...

Got any suggestion??

It must of revamped the stock when I left so now I am stuck here with no framedrive to get me anywhere..

You might be stuck if the local station doesn't have a better FSD separately available. In that case your only choice will be to sell your ship but you will take a credit hit if you have to do that.

If there are no other stations in system to try i'm afraid you'll have to strip down your cobra, sell it and buy another one/ship

oh well, I guess I have not choice.. I will not make that mistake again :)

Thanks guys.. I least now I know....

Sell cargo, self destruct and dont select your FSD on insurance screen, that way you might get the old fsd back which allows you to get out of there.

Or if the local shipyard sells a ship with a big enough FSD, buy one, swap out the FSD on the donor ship (it will remain in stock for 10 minutes unless you launch or log out), then re-buy the bigger FSD for your stranded ship and sell the donor ship.

Failing that put in a ticket to support explaining your issue. They might be able to reset you back to a previous save before your mistaken upgrade step.

Don't suppose you have enough credit to buy another cobra where you are? If you do, buy it, store your current ship, sell the FSD from the new Cobra to get it into the market, swap back to your old cobra, fit the FSD you put in the market in your old cobra. Then just sell the new cobra.
