Horizons Need help choosing a beautiful home system

27 G. Caeli. Weaver. Earth-like with wide rings. Station inside. Lots of res zones. Ice, rock and metallic rings. Orbis -style - not coriolis style stations. Many srv friendly planets/moons. One of the "northernmost" Imperial-controlled systems. Good luck!

You might check out the Maya system (with a Y not an I). It has two Earth Like Worlds, both with rings and both with starports with rings; one also orbits a ringed gas giant. Lots of other ringed planets, a few outposts and ground settlements. I used this system as one of my main home bases while ranking up with the Federation.

Hey guys! Thank you so much for all of your suggestions. I really liked visiting all of these places, especially the ones in the posted video!

Now for part II - what about the best places that are exclusively ground bases - I always wanted to live at one of those bigass planetary ports with the ringed walls, but it would be really cool if it had a nice view too! So - where do you guys have to suggest next?

Don't live at a ground base. It's much slower to come and go and the planet gets in your way when trying to select half the destinations.

I agree! I liked this idea until I actually started doing it... It took away the novelty of visiting planetary bases/surface for missions, and took longer to just "get home".

I decided it's 3302... We live in space now.

As for the planet getting in the way...only a cat would find that a problem! :p :D

I don't mind! I much prefer a good view for the added inconvenience of an extra few seconds to launch. I've spent so long landing and jumping off planets that I'm more than used to it.

FYI Asprin Palace is a planetary port (ringed city) I found yesterday that lives on Vulcan, LHS 3006. Which is a landable planet with a beautiful ring system. Quite spectacular! Still looking for more suggestions though.

What planets are you landing on? It generally doesn't take me more than 30-40 seconds to approach and land. It's not quite as simple as dropping into a station, yes, but I generally don't mind just for the chance to call someplace nice home. Most of the time, what I try to do is do my "work", whether that be bounty hunting or combat elsewhere. This is to avoid affecting faction rep in the home system. For longer deployments, I move the ship I'm using to a temporary home like a station or outpost, particularly if located close to a CZ/RES. I wouldn't say that EVERY time I land it has to be at a specific planetary port - that would be a bit tedious, I agree.

Anyway, just to update this thread a bit, I am currently in the middle of a planetary survey.
I decided I want to live at a planetary port, with my only hard requirements being:

  • Must be planetary port (the large, ringed cities that are the largest surface base)
  • Must have a good view! This is more subjective, but in order of preference, I either want the planet I'm on to have rings, or have an earthlike constantly in view (needs to be tidally locked), or have a large gas giant constantly in view.
  • Facility requirements are:
    • Up to Large landing pad
    • Shipyard (for ship storage)
    • Outfitting (for module storage when that drops)
    • Repair
    • Restock
    • Refuel
  • Must be 10,000 ls from the arrival point or LESS - there are a couple I found over 100,000 ls from the arrival point!

For all of these, I found 471 candidate stations to check on EDDB.io
Over the past day or two, I have surveyed, either through existing galaxy map info OR through direct travel, all 471 candidates.
From this, I now have 5 candidates that are succesfully fill all 5 criteria, plus 47 remaining which have been deemed worthy of further investigation through the galaxy map, but require survey in person. This is to check if they actually have a good view, etc.

Hopefully, once I've completed my survey over the weekend, I can post the results for anyone also interested.

EDIT:

Here's a shot of one of the passed candidates, this is Asprin Palace in LHS 3006
