Need help deciding which Power to pledge.

I may have stumbled upon a teeny tiny bug. Rly not a big deal at this point, but I wonder if it's a known issue.

So, I pledged on tuesday and fast-tracked 100 merits yesterday (wednesday). So today (thursday) I was promoted to Rating 2 and so it shows on my PP summary.
HOWEVER, I only got a 1000cr voucher instead of the 50.000cr I should receive at rating 2.

Ofc I don't care about 49k credits, esp since the bounty bonus definitely works and made me over a million extra credits today. I'd just like to know what's up. ^^

Its not a bug. Your new weekly bonus is paid out on the next cycle tick because you have to be at that rank for one full cycle to get it.

Phew, so no dessert for another week. 😄

BTW are there actually people who maintain rank 5? Seems like an awful amount of grind.

The best metric of success in EliteDangerous is to always be doing something fun = never grind. Four years playing Xbox, Triple Elite and primarily a trader and can honestly say never found myself grinding anything. Been doing PP for 2+ years and have been R5 since the second week. Recommend finding a good group of pilots as stated above and work to meet common objectives. Went for APAs, met some fantastic serious power play/bgs pilots with an incredible understanding of the game and have been there ever since. Would like to get some of the other modules, but the weekly objectives provide so much fun/challenge I find it hard to give it up. And no I do not have OCD of any kind, and my therapist gave me permission to say so :giggle: . Just started working a PC account, because that's where this group plays, and have double my fun factor. This game is no grind only fun when played as intended. So be fast, be dangerous and hope to see you in the black o7 Cmdr.

Prismatics, Packhounds, Hammers, Advanced PAs. In that order, and then from there... whatever. I guess next up would be Pacifier. Just my opinion. I might even put the Packs before the Prismatics, and watch the Prismos, they take a huge amount of power, and IMO, don't really offer a tremendous amount of shield protection over just regular ENG shields, but might make someone think twice about ganking you when they scan you and see 'em, with a nice set of Hammers and Packs ;)

Maybe not exactly on topic of the thread, but I didn't find an appropriate one and it's really only one little question:
I have pledged to a power on Tue, Jan 19, and I want to get the module asap.
By what date exactly do I need to have the 750 merits for rank 3?

Once you Pledge... wait until you hit 3 Weeks, don't do anything more until then! Once you are at 3 Weeks, go to the Power's HQ and run the delivery, fortification cargo runs. Depending on your money, you can get 10 Units of whatever you choose to transport, then have to wait another I think 30 minutes to get another 10. Forget that, if you have the money, you can Fast Track by paying I think $100,000 to get instant access to 10 more units of whatever you're transporting. Keep doing this, if you can, and depending on the cargo space you have. If you have 750 space in cargo, cool you can do it ALL in one run and will cost you like $7.5M to Fast Track. OK, now you're at the 3 week mark with 750 in transport delivered. Now... just WAIT until it rolls to 4 Weeks and presto! Whatever module you're going for will be yours to buy. Remember, you may have to log out and almost certainly WILL need to log out and back in to see that module show up, so don't freak if it's not there, just relog and it will be. AND, as I did, don't forget to buy AS MANY AS you'll think you'll need or ever want, or you will have to go through pledging again, like I have to with Prismatics, to get access to that module. So, overbuy if you can by a bit. Better to have more than not enough, right? I messed up on Prismatics and didn't get enough, now I need to wait until I am done with current Pledge, to go back and Pledge with Disney chick again. Also, you'll get a warning when you defect from Power that they will hunt you down for 3 days, but I have NEVER had this happen, but you might. I do believe it also states that you can't Pledge again for 3 days or something like that to another Power, but I am always able to Pledge to a new Power like the very next day. Your luck may vary. And don't worry about doing the date math... just check your Power, and once it SAYS 3 Week, or even 3 Weeks and 1 Day... just do the transport of the 750 whatever they want you to transport. You can also get the 750 Merits via Combat, but it's easier to just simply do the Fortification transport of 750 Units of whatever they want.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. So, do I understand that correctly: Having pledged on Jan 19, I don't need to do anything until Feb 10, and then sometime between Feb 11 and Feb 17 I need to get my merits up to 750?

(FWIW I actually did the fortification run for rank 2 and intend to maintain it, because the bonus bounty payout is making me millions. ;) )

And yes I'll definitely stock up. xD Guess I'll have to buy some ships solely for module storage. :p

Ultimately successful combat is a race to do the most damage in the least amount of time.

on paper, or if the encounter is a mutual facetank, yes. however, no matter the stats no weapon is any good if it can't land enough hits ...

point being, you could say combat is a race to avoid most hits.

If you wish to cancel SCBs the imperial hammer with feedback is great.

never thought about this! why, does the magic effect apply 3 times? does that make a difference on the cells?

Man, I am not the one to do the math... whatever 3 Weeks is. Ha! Just check the Power, under the Tab for where it states how long you've been Pledged... and just concern yourself with "3 Weeks". Maybe someone can tell you exactly, based on your date. I am not that person. Also, just make sure when it hits 3 Weeks, that you have 750... but since you're doing that a different way than me... I'll leave that also up to someone else to explain. I can only say how I do it, or learned to do it. Confused the hell out of me the first time, and I do it the same way every time. Also, some people really want you to take the Pledge seriously, I don't, but you certainly can if you so desire to make it more immersive. And YES, I've had to buy ships to store modules, for sure! Stupid I think, but they limit you to 120, unless you can stick them into ships... so, buy some ships ;) I think that's why, like on INARA, you'll see some guys and gals with like 40 Sidewinders. Haha!

The for the intel. I pledged last week to Aisling. Now I need more money to buy the shields.

I think, those Prismos are the most expensive items Pledge. I think. I have Pledged and gotten, so far the following

Prismatic (didn't buy enough)!!
Packhounds
Hammers
(GET HAMMERS!!!!! Love 'em!!!!)
Advanced Plasma
And currently Pledged to Hudson for the Pacifier Frags and only into him for a little over 2 Weeks. I want to go back to get more Prismos, like you're doing now!! But, may as well wait another 2 weeks, then another 4 Weeks, so, in 6 dang WEEKS, I'll have more Prismatics. Oy!

Also, just to note... Prismatics are very Power Hungry modules, as well as pretty expensive, but not too bad, depending on your $$$ though, of course.

One last note on the Prismatics, and someone might disagree with me... don't buy them for every ship you have. Buy them for the ships you really think will need them, more PvP type encounters. Just my opinion. I wish I had known this, or thought this at the time. Like, I only really needed them for my Vette, Cutter, Krait, Python and FDL. But I bought lesser grades, like 3's and 4's, when, again IMO, those ships won't need 'em, unless you're going to be PvP in a Eagle or something. I wish I had just bought enough 5/6's for sure, along with a few 7 and 8's. Just think that one out. All I am saying. I wasted money and now need to swap out the ONLY "5" Prismo I have between two FDLs. Sucks. Can't wait to redo this one again.

Ok I think I got it now. I suppose I could technically hand in my merits by Feb 10, which gets me promoted to rank 3, and then my counter should roll over to 4 weeks on the 16th/17th... giving me exactly one day to buy the modules before I lose the rank again. 😂 (And heavens forbid I have internet trouble on exactly that day...) So I guess I'll play it safe, wait a day longer and have a full week to do my shopping. ^^

Oh, and I guess the most economical way to cache Pacifiers would be to buy DBXs; cheapest Large hardpoint in the game... but then you'd need one DBX for every Pac you want to store. Vultures cost a few more Cr/HP but you only need to sort through half as many in your shipyard. ;) Not worth going any bigger than that though; even a Type 10 can only hold as many Pacs as 2 Vultures but is over 12 times the price of those. Unless you have lots of other modules to store, too...

Yeah, TRY to time that Pledge right, so you have more time. I, too, will only have like 1 day to buy my Pacifiers. Also, I guess IF you have 750 in Merits when you hit week 3, you'll roll to Rank 3. I never do, I stay Rank 1 right up until I hit Week 4, since just because at 3 Weeks, I deliver 750 in the cargo, doesn't change a thing in rank, it's only on the next roll over cycle that I will hit Rank 3. That doesn't matter to me, but sounds like you're more into the actual PP thing than me. Ha! ;)

Well this is only my first time I pledged, also for the Pacs, and I hope to leave Hudson behind forever after that, even though he's currently exploiting my home system (so staying with him would be easy and profitable).

I could imagine staying with one power for good and actively participating in strategic PP once I got all the modules I want. But that's a long way to go until then and I don't even know yet who I'd pick. ^^

I would start with Aisling for prismatic shields followed by Li Yong-Rui for packhounds. I would also wait until you have a sizeable fleet and enough creds to buy all these expensive pp modules

I don't play so much for the Powers, but I get some, a lot, probably, do and it's probably fun. If I had to pick a Power to Pledge to, it would be, in my personal preference, Li Yong-Rui . Dude offers every ship and module at a discount. I buy all my ships and modules from him, and not only does that lower the price by like, I think 20%, it lessens the price of the rebuy for the ship in case you "lose" it, again, I do believe. Never paid much attention to that since I have a bit of cash to play with and don't keep an eye on it that much, but it's helpful if you're on a budget for sure! Plus, Mr. Rui has the coolest PP item, the Packshounds, again, IMO. At least the most fun, to me. Nothing like unleashing a hell storm of Packs! 😜
