Newcomer / Intro Need help finding station info & a flight log

Galactic greetings Commanders!

I'm hoping that I am just missing something obvious, but I'm struggling to find a place where 3 specific pieces of station info are recorded:

1- the distance the station is from the jump in point (the system map gives me a lot of info about the stations name, factions, services, orbit length, etc. but not this one crucial point)
2- the type of station it is (the system map does show an icon, but so small my old eyes can't really see a difference between most of them)
3- the population size of the station (the galaxy map info panel tells me the system population, but I want to know station population size)

On a separate point, is there any sort of Pilots Log available. Even something that simply records what systems I've jumped through and what stations I've stopped at? My galactic navigating skills are the epitome of "Lost in Space" :)

1- Once you jump to a new system the way to find out the distance to a station is in your left UI pannel. Go to the navigation tab and start scrolling destinations until you see the station you want (it ll have a distinctive station icon on the left of the name). The distance is on the right. Once you click on it and select "lock target destination" then you ll be able to see the destination in space surrounded by a yellow/orange circle and its name/distance too. Last but not least, once selected as destination you ll also see the distance stated to the left of your scanner in the SC safe disengage info pannel.
2- They type of station is on the map icon aswell, if it is too small for your eyes I am not sure how to advice... Are you using trackIR or Oculus so oyu can actually get closer to the text by moving your head?
3- Not in game right now, but have you checked the system map? Maybe it does say local population there.

Thanks for the reply @Viajero, much appreciated. Only, that's sort of exactly what I'm trying to avoid here. I know I can get the distance to station info once I'm in the system, but I was hoping to find out before I get there.

I'm route planning using the galaxy and system maps, was looking specifically for three or four large population, close to jump-in point stations, all with the same allegiance in adjacent systems to try and establish a sort of "rapid reputation building, express trader delivery service" route. And I was hoping to set it up without having to physically visit each system to check basic information that should be available in the system map info panel, seeing as we know everything else about each station.

Does anyone know of a wiki or FAQ page somewhere that lists the various station types AND shows their associated system map and nav screen icons?

Ah I see! No, afaik there is not as of yet a way to know the distance to a station in a system you are not yet in. But I agree it would be nice to know. This may have already been suggested to devs, but if it hasn't then it would make a good request. The system map would probably be the best place to have it indeed.

I guess the complication lies in the fact stations positions are dynamic as they orbit their own celestial references which in turn orbit the system stars etc. those distances therefore can change a lot. Afaik your client only loads a system positions data when you jump to it so having all distances preconfigured in the system maps would actually mean your client wound need to load that system full set of positional data every time you click on it. At the moment the hyperspace animation takes a few seconds already to do that among other things ...

If you have system data (i.e. if you can look at the system in the galactic map) click on the planet the station is orbiting.
There will be a line (can´t remember the name) where it shows distance in AU (Astronomical Units) from the star. 1 AU is about 150 Million km, or 500 Ls.
Don´t remember if the orbital distances for secondary stars are listed too, but if not, look at the orbital time. If the secondary takes 100,000 days to complete one orbit it is probably _way_ out there.

Edit:
You can calculate the secondary´s distance too.
If that gas giant that is 3 AUs out from the system´s primary takes 1000 days for a orbit, that secondary star that takes 10,000 days is probably about 10 times as far out (yes, not exact but it will give you a ballpark number)
