Need help quick... Route plotting failure

Commanders, I have a stupid problem. I picked up a mission to deliver a whopping 3 cobalt to a station 8 Ly away. I'm in the ghetto sidewinder and now all of a sudden I can't plot routes anywhere! Not even ONE jump away.

I Googled it, and supposedly it's because my ship could be overweight now. Seriously? ?

If I abandon the mission I'll be fined. What the hell else can I do to get around this?!

Do you have fuel in your tank? If it's not that then you need to lighten your ship - if you have the money then D grade modules are the lighter option (or just remove modules you don't need, the display should tell you the effect on your jump range) - use Outfitting to do this - though watch out that you have enough power for your ship (D modules shouldn't cause an issue here).

Outfitting - annoying, but eventually fun :)

Edit: And there was me thinking from the title that you'd hit the 1000Ly limit on route plotting :D

You don't always get fined. It could be that it can't jump 8ly? Have you been upgrading the ship?
Certain upgrades can effect other aspects of the ship.

No I got fined. It said I'd be fined if it wasn't completed.

And yea, the problem was the cargo was too heavy. So let that be a lesson to anyone reading this before you get a new ship, you have severe weight restrictions with your FSD.

The weight of cargo has a much bigger effect on small ships, get saving for a better FSD :)

You can see your jump range in stations (I don't think you can outside?), which also lists your minimum jump distance, so you need to keep in mind what that is if you're gonna pick up any cargo missions.
I had a similar problem in my Sidewinder when I ended up in a dead-end system with no missions I could jump to, even without cargo...

Before you accept the mission go to the galaxy map and plot a course to the mission destination adding the amount of cargo you will be carrying using the slider. If the galaxy map shows a dotted line you cannot travel to your plotted route unless you upgrade your fsd drive. For destinations more than 1 jump you would need a fuel scoop to get to your destination if the last few jumps are showing a dotted line.

Remember you can only scoop from from certain star types. I use kgbfoam to remember which. You can also set filters too in the galaxy map if your route requires refueling. Replot the route after applying those filters.
