Elite / Frontier Need help saving on amiga emulator

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum so hello and I'll be brief.

I recently got my amiga emulator up and running (legally) so that I could play frontier elite 2 on it since playing it on dosbox is quite terrible and nothing compared to the amiga experience.

It's all up and running beautifully bar 1 small problem, I seem unable to save my career, well I can and can load it all back whilst in-game but as soon as I switch it off and back on it defaults to the original settings and all saves are lost.

I love this game and I want to be able to play it but without being able to save it there is absolutely no point.

I've seen the miracles that you guys work with this game and I'm praying you have a solution for me.

Thanks

Turi

I'm not sure what your problem is exactly. Assuming you're using WinUAE or something, you'd save the game in the normal way and then when you re-load the game press "5" on the intro to go straight to the folder you saved your game in.
Does the savegame not show up in the folder?

Unless there's a specific reason that you want to play frontier rather than first encounters, i really recommend using GLFFE.
It looks great and plays great with no problems in saving or loading. And you don't need to bother with an emulator.

Frontier does have it's modern rig alternative too, namely GLFrontier.

I used to have it working okay in WinUAE, but as Draq says, I think you need to use the software to create a blank .UDF disk and then save to that.

However, I experienced something worse than you. The game worked for a while, (perhaps 2 or 3 in-game months, so not THAT long), and then my save-files became corrupt. Don't know how, but rather than losing a single sessions worth of gaming I lost lots.

Upgrade to GLFrontier. Runs much better. (Well, does on my laptop anyway. WinUAE Frontier was dog-slow...GLFrontier is lightning fast.)

Gah, I hate it when people say that. On my 3.06 GHz 1Gb RAM PC fitted with an NVIDIA GeForce 6200 LE card it's stuck at 10 fps

In both OpenGL and traditional mode? From my experience software mode is faster and much more detailed, even if it comes at the price of resolution. I wouldn't be able to play it in fugly GL mode, especially when flying close to the stars and thaving them turn dark green.

I've just updated the Nvidia drivers to the latest version and glFrontier now runs at a dizzying 20fps  This at least makes it playable so I'm going to take this baby out for a spin...

It's been a while since I cranked up an Amiga emulator, but, isn't there a "save state" feature in there somewhere ? I'm only going from memory, so....:D . You wouldn't even need to dock to save.
