Need help to explain ship rotation speed, please.

Accelerate to full speed.

Pitch up 90° while using full thrust down and centre your throttle. Keep holding thrust down. You should be now moving "downwards" at full speed.

Throttle up. Observe. Your main thrusters should be accelerating you perpendicular to your movement vector.

edit: I just tried this in the current version (1.06) While the crux of what I said still holds basically true it seems you no longer can achieve full speed sideways or backwards in FAON, but these caps don't exist in FAOFF.

I am actually fine with this!

It's a wierd world - Star citizen ships looks like airplanes but "can" fly like spacecraft while Elite Dangerous ships looks like something actually ment to fly in space - but fly like airplanes...

Could somebody just make a game where the ships looks like spaceships and fly like spaceships? :D

My own personal headcanon is that even when not using our frame-shift drives, a considerable amount of the mass of our ships is shifted partway into Witchspace. Our ships have far too much delta-V for their fuel to payload ratio, and the thrust they're capable of is unreal. While it is possible turn off this system and go full newtonian (flight assist off), normal ship handling with flight assist on is aeroplane like because interacting with Witchspace, even at minimal levels seen in out of supercruise or hyperspace jumps, is more analogous to atmospheric flight than it is space flight. This is especially obvious in Supercruise, since you need the massive rear engines to push your ship through the medium found in Witchspace, which is denser around massive bodies, and throttling down results in a gradual slowing down of speed.

FA off isn't FA off. Yaw assist is still on regardless if you have FA off. With FA off your yaw will still stop once started, indicating assist in stopping you from continuing to yaw in the direction you started. Other axis assists appear to be off just not the yaw.

Of course if you bought into the game looking at the release vid you'll be highly disappointed in knowing it was a bogus video of what the ship can't actually do.

FD needs to critically rethink their flight model.
