Need help with a mission.

So I just got my first Naval Ascension Opportunity mission. I'm supposed to go hunt down a specific NPC in a specific system. My question, is what exactly am I looking for? How will I know If I found them? Nav beacon? Unidentified signal? Strong signal? Weak signal? I'm just not sure how I'm supposed to find a specific NPC within an entire system.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Whilst in super cruise in that system, look out for USS and drop into them.

If you're not equipped for bounty hunting, i.e. you just have a basic scanner and an itchy trigger finger, your best bet is to travel from signal to signal. Likely not the nav beacon, and likely USS. The reason is that your target will be alone, but powerful. Might take a few tries, but since it's just one system, probably he will pop up by the third try - it's semi-random.

Unidentified signal source only. So you need to supercruise back on forth til they pop.

So, enlighten me...if I have a better scanner will it help with identifying USS?

I would go for Unidentified Signal Sources. Weak Signal Sources tend to be abandoned cargo or rare art, and stuff like that and Strong Signal Sources are... Dangerous! Something like three bloodthirsty Vultures. As said above, fly around in SC and target and drop into any USS's that come along. Your target should show up at some point.

It's just trial and error. Keep entering USS' until you find what you're looking for.

There is no way to tell beforehand.

I found them! Took 6 or so USS till they popped up. They were in a clipper, easy enough to take down with my decked-out Vulture. Thanks for the help guys.
