Need help with edsm (or the like)

Hi there, cmdrs!
I haven't bothered with 3rd party tools too much so far, except for ED Engineers, which is great, and the obvious sites like EDDB, Inara etc.
I did two bigger exploration trips so far and so far I have kept a log with the more interesting systems in form of a spreadsheet.
However, I've always missed to be able to see my tracks in a galaxy map and updating my spreadsheet log is pretty tedious, too.
So I was looking for tools with log functionality.
I also tried one (forgot which one it was) but until then I hadn't turned on logging and when I did it eventually got turned off again due to ED updates...
Long story short, only a fraction of the systems I had visited so far showed up in the log.
Now I just registered on edsm. If I try to "Import Journal" I'm asked to point to my journal file, but in the logs folder I only have debugOutput....log and netLog....log files but no journal file.
Obviously I have no clue what I'm doing
First question is, is there a way to import all visited systems since day one into a 3rd party tool, without having had logging turned on continuously, at all? I mean, the game obviously does know which systems I've visited, so I guess it should be possible.
And if there is, how the heck do I do that? :S
Thanks and cheers!

Check C:\Users\<your_user>\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous folder. It should contain journal files you need for EDSM.

Thanks! Ok, this works but the first journal file is from October last year while I'm in Elite since about two years. October was probably when I turned on logging for the first time. So it seems there's no way to import all visited systems?

You want to find your old NETLOG files - try C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\elite-dangerous-64\Logs

With the old importer, right? That works, too, but not with all netLog files. It says, if you use netLog, make sure to have verbose logging activated. But in the first months I didn't, and there are gaps in between when upgrades turned verbose logging off again...

Take a look at EDDiscovery - this will import all old logs & journals and will then sync with EDSM using the API key you get with your EDSM account - really useful tool, wish I'd found it a loooong while ago. There's a thread here - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/138155-EDDiscovery - that may help....

I recently imported my logs almost without issue (E:D showing 29,668 systems, EDSM 29,816), may need to clean up some duplicates...

One of the updates last year changed the logging format. The old logs were netlogs and had to be enabled since they were off by default.
The update changed the logging format to journal files and they are ON by default.

Web sites like EDSM and Inara used to import Netlog files but they since changed to work with journal files.
As Arnoldo pointed out, ED Discovery will automatically read all of your journal files and has the ability to import all of your old netlog files.
Then it will sync to EDSM so you should end up with your entire history.

There are other tools but ED Discovery is the tool you want if you're interested in creating maps of your journeys. Like this one

The Major is spot on - the 2D and 3D maps capability of EDDiscovery has to be seen; great for helping plot routes in a way that GalMap cant match..

Re maps - here's a mad history for you -

The answer to "First question is, is there a way to import all visited systems since day one into a 3rd party tool, without having had logging turned on continuously, at all? I mean, the game obviously does know which systems I've visited, so I guess it should be possible." is: unfortunately not.
If you didn't have verbose logging on in the pre-Journal days, the data is currently 'lost' to you. Hence the gaps you've seen.
Maybe one day ED will provide an export function from the game, but until then...sad faces all round :(

Well, I was afraid that's the case.
Too bad.
Hope we'll see the export function one day.
Would like to see all my traces not just a fraction...
