Newcomer / Intro Need help with groups

Hi all,

I am trying to group up with my friends to play E:D. We managed to get into our own group, in game, and in a wing together all pretty easily. But when we logged in, we discovered that we are each over 200 ly from eachother. Requiring 100+ jumps to rendezvous. Is there any way to get us all into the same system easily? I'm not really keen on spending what would probably amount to a full RL week (2 or 3 hours a night) doing nothing but traveling just so I can play with my friends.

I just started, so I am even willing to suicide if there is some way for me to spawn near my friends.

Thanks All,

Aurakul

There is currently no real way to just jump to your friends. If you do destroy yourself you may end up back at your starting station and still have a journey to make.

If you are over 200ly from each other and you are saying that is 100+ jumps what is you ship and what FSD do you have installed? My cobra does not have the best FSD and it only takes 10 jumps for 200ly which is roughly 30-40 minutes of time.

Get a better Frame Shift Drive. What you need do is have a ship with some legs, at least 14-15LY jump range, more is preferable. Then in the Galaxy Map, when setting the course, make sure it's for 'Fastest Route' not 'Economical Route'.

A 200LY trip, should not take much more than 20 minutes in a ship with a good FSD. If you both meet up in the middle, both of you need only do 100LY - about 10 minutes of travel.

I'm brand new, so I'm in the starter Sidewinder, my jump range is roughly 7.5 ly

It sounds like you're suggesting my time might be better spent playing a little bit to upgrade my ship which would make it easier to travel and group up?

Honestly, yes. Supercruise to a Nav Point in your system - Not all systems have them, but they can always be found (again, if the system has one) by the star you would warp in at. Hang out there and target NPCs - when you target them, a passive scan will commence in the bottom left of your HUD - if the status says clean, move on to the next - if their status says Wanted - try and kill them - youll get bounty money for killing them and practice dogfighting - to upgrade a FSD in a sidewinder it doesnt take much money

Also, the bounty rewards have been increased with the newest content update so it really shouldnt take to long

-All this being said, make sure if you go to attack an npc you can kill it - for now, stick with killing sidewinders, adders, eagles, and haulers that are wanted.

Edit: Also, you could skip geting an fsd and just go for a fuel scoop - either way to make that kind of jump (200ly) youll want a fuel scoop - youll spend ALOT less time by re-fueling at the star than re-fueling at a station - One last thing - I used to think that 100ly was a very large distance, couldnt do it - didnt want to think about it - but with a fuel scoop, an upgraded FSD, and my tv in the background its really not so bad - :D - Just let us know if you have any questions!!!

If your friend is that far away, he must have more *stuff*, and it might be easier for him to come to you. If he has anything decent, he could be there in 5-10 mins.
I used to do 2000ly per hour when I was exploring.

Yeah the sidewinder does have limited range so you are right to say that it may be better for you to upgrade the ship.

It is a shame that we are still waiting for multiple commander slots. Then at least I can have a commander floating around the area where my friends are and another to play when they are not around.
