Need help with retro game name

Hi,
I remember playing a game a long time ago. You were in a ship and on the surface of the planet where symbols representing different elements that you "mined" you were in a hover ship. The symbols I remember were crossed pick axes and you had to watch out for these aliens that would kill you if they caught you. You had a radar that would tell you where ores were and you could fly to different planets to collect these ores. Can anyone remember or tell me the name of this game? I apologize for lack of detail but was so long ago. Thank you in advance :)

2D game or 3D game?
Pixel or vector graphics?
Home machine or arcade?

From what you describe it sounds a little like the vector graphic arcade game "Gravitar" but I never saw any pick-axes.

it was 2d not sure of graphics home machine. the ship was more like a hover craft on the planet. resources were scattered across the landscape and you had a radar that showed where resources were.

I had that on the Amstrad... sniff, happy days.

Both 'Tau Ceti' and the sequel 'Academy' were utterly brilliant. Loved the way you could design your own skimmer's cockpit in 'Academy'. (Pete Cooke came up with a windowing gui widget system on the Spectrum. In your face windows! :) )

Mmmm I want to play StarGlider now...
