need help with starting

PM me. I might be able to head your way (if you are at the starter system I go to in order to help new Commanders). Check the links in my signature.

Hi, welcome to the galaxy.

There's a "newcomer's forum" here.. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=75
That should help with some words of advice.

I personally favour videos, they tend to fit my personality better. The official ones are here...

(Avoid PowerPlay for now, that's just adding more complication to an already complicated game and is optional)

There are numerous other video tutorials out there.

The in-game tutorial missions are pretty good for walking you through the basics of flight and combat, but after those, I'd just say have fun, die lots in the free Sidey and learn from each death.

Most of all, have fun. :)

Edit. Rest assured that whatever new way you find to die, it's probably been done many times before so don't feel alone. If you find what you think is a truly novel way to die then post in the forums. We all like a good giggle here. ;)

Oops :)

To refuel you need to be in a station and buy fuel. Later on, when you get a bigger ship you will be able to buy and fit a fuel scoop that will let you scoop fuel from stars.

Stations and outposts often sell fuel. I think the cheapest fuel scoop costs less than 250 credits but doesn't grab much. You can find stations and outposts on your Navigation UI on the left (Default Key: 1) To scoop fuel, you just need to fly close to a star in Super Cruise that is rather active. If the flares are touching the circle surrounding the star, then it should be scoopable.

Also... watch out for White Dwarf stars. They're sneaky and if you aren't paying attention can cause major damage to your ship and its systems.

Fuel scoop what? And I just dnt have a clue and I done the practise just wanted someone to join game and show me around

Fuel Scoops are a piece of equipment that let you fly into the corona of a star (just outside of the green line you see when you get close) and refuel your ship. Its a massively important piece of kit if you plan to explore, since there's nowhere to land out there in the black. To use one (provided you have one...they don't weigh anything and the lowest ranked ones are amazingly cheap) just fly towards the star until you get a message that you're fuel scooping, and kill your throttle while making SURE that the centerpoint of your canopy is ABOVE the green line (you don't want to drop below that green line, unless you feel like getting dumped out of supercruise and BBQd). Now just wait for either: a) your fuel tanks to fill (it will give an announcement that scooping is complete) or b) your ship to overheat, in which case punch it, get away, cool off, and come back for more.

As for finding a station...look at your right hand panel (I use the head look key, since it feels more "natural" and immersive than pressing my preset button...but that's just me) and you'll see a list of everything in the system you're parked at, along with a list of all the nearby systems. Just select a station (they're normally named with words like "Dock", "Port", and "Outpost", although some are a bit stranger, although you can always tell because there will be an icon showing a station graphic depending on what kind of station it is), hit "lock course" or "lock course and supercruise" if you're parked, and then follow the tracker on your screen (the little circle with the cross on the upper left of your radar gives direction to your target, move around until its a white dot in the center...if its a black/white circle, its behind you). Watch your speed on approach too...punch it to max throttle for the main journey, and pay attention to the countdown timer of when you will arrive. I have a 75% throttle preset button equipped, and the moment it hits around 10-8s remaining I press that...it will ensure you slow down enough for a safe stop at the station (just wait til you get "disengage ready" and press your supercruise key...mine is bound to K, but you can set it to whatever you want). Then its just a matter of landing...the landing tutorial will teach you that.

Drat! I would have headed your way, but as I am a PC Commander, we wouldn't see each other.

The fuel scoop is a device that you can get in Outfitting that allows you to scoop fuel from some stars. The scoopable stars fall into the group "KGB FOAM", so when you scan a star, if it is any of the types in the mnemonic it can be scooped. The trick is to imagine skimming stones over a pond. If you start flying towards the edge of a star (that you have just arrived at) you should see a gold ring around it. Assuming it is scoopable the ring won't be too far out from the star. Aim to fly outside this ring, about the same distance out as the ring is from the star. After a few moments the fuel scoop should activate. At this point slow down to minimum speed (about 30KM/S). This will allow the fuel scoop to work without your ship heating up quickly. Once you have finished scooping ("Fuel scooping complete") pull away from the star, and, if you are jumping to another system, wait until the temperature is around 50% before jumping.

Ninja-ed!

I may have ninja'd you, but you added in the KGB-FOAM acronym that I keep forgetting (since I'm just getting started exploring, I REALLY need to burn that into my memory before I head too far out!).

Damn some one join my game lol this is a great game I just duna where to start how do I scan is that just when u press A (on xbox) and it locks on

For system scans, you'll need to set a button (or fire group in your left panel) for your Basic Discovery Scanner (which comes free on all ships...that gives 500ls of range, the Intermediate version is 1000ls, and the Advanced just scans the whole system at once). Just fire it off (a little bar will pop up on your HUD, when it fills you'll hear a deep electronic Honk noise, kinda like the sounds you hear in a lot of sci-fi movies...actually, I think they ripped it off of the "horn" sound Michael Bay used for the big ships in the Transformers movies LOL) and it will tell you if you found anything. To get a more detailed scan, you need to equip a Detailed Surface Scanner (its a module, and runs about 250,000 credits at most stations that carry it), then just lock onto the planet/star/big pile of rocks you're curious about and close in til it tells you its scanning. At that point you can either stop or just slow down til its done, and it will tell you what you found.

I agree w/ HellRazor here...it would be so much easier to do this on voicecomms and show you around a bit. Check Youtube out for some vids...it may be PC controls, but you'll get the basic idea. I'd suggest Commander Chaoswulff personally...his "Zero to Hero" series is great for newbies to watch and learn from. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZjTDkaBYA2Lq5D5GQDdofw - that's his channel link.

Yep, that's where you need to set it. Good luck out there...I'd stick around and chat, but I have to be up for work in 6 hours, so its time to get some sleep (besides, when I get to work I'll get to venture out a bit and continue my current run to Lembava, scanning all the way...the joys of working the 12-8am shift at a hotel LOL). Nice work :) Now to go see what they are (use your system map to see where to look...if you don't have the detailed surface scanner you can't do much with em, but at least you can look at the shinies ;) ).
