Need some advice on system degradation...

I am about 18K LY out and have been having a great time discovering what's out there....
Didn't think to look until last night - maybe I shouldn't have...lol
The system degradation is a bit concerning to me....should I be concerned?
In one of my typical idiot moments....I failed to bring along any repair capability...
Should I be concerned about the percentages displayed?
If they get too low - will the item cease to function? (scares me half to death when I think about the fuel scoop...ugh)
Wondering if I should press on or head back to civilization
12 days and I am calculating around 30 million credits so far....would hate to lose it all over being a space idiot.....
First discoveries on, 90 Black Holes - 190 Neutron Stars - 3 ELW's - 3 Ammonia Worlds, 7 Terraformable Water Worlds, 7 Metal-Rich, 2 Trraformable High metal Content, ....and the list goes on....
Having the time of my life and really do not want to turn back now - but sure don't want to get stuck out here with a fuel scoop that doesn't work...LOL....

As far as i know, if your thrusters are damaged the will randomly shut down which is bad when you are in supercruise. You will drop out of SC and do even more damage to your ship...
Not sure about the other modules.

Thank you daHawk....I didn't want to cut the trip short but I think maybe I will hit Sag A* for the first time and then head back....appreciate the advice...

I also wanted to know how the game handles damaged modules, found this: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7454

Malfunctions

As a module’s health is reduced there is an increasing chance that it will suffer a temporary malfunction based off the following triggers
The module suffers direct damage
The module is powered up
The module is activated
Malfunctions are temporary debilitating effects
The lower the module health the greater the potential severity of malfunction
Malfunctions are module specific (e.g. an auto cannon might suffer an ammo feed jam, a sensor unit might display corrupted data, an engine might generate excessive heat
Malfunctions can last for a few seconds to several minutes, based on the effect
Malfunctions always generate visual/audio feedback so that it is clear abnormal behaviours are active
Some malfunctions can be ended early by specific action that commanders can learn (such as switching a module off and back on, refraining from module activation, continuous fire etc.)
Some malfunctions can cause additional fatigue or direct damage to other modules
A manager oversees malfunctions and weights their occurrences to smooth the pacing of multiple malfunctions (reducing the likelihood of triggering too many malfunctions from minor damage)
Most malfunctions can be ended early by repair
Some weapons are specifically designed to increase the chance of malfunction when they deal damage directly to modules

Thank you daHawk - been looking everywhere for something like this and couldn't find anything - I appreciate it!

Fascinating discussion.
I especially worry about the PP, LS & Hull.
The Hull, PP cannot be repaired with AFMU.
The LS with AFMU causes O2 loss.
I try to keep my Scoop, Thrusters, FSD, and Scanners at 100%.
Does anyone know at what percentages to start worrying at?

If I remeber correctly everything above 50% should be fine, but don't quote me.
I don't use AMFUs, so basically every module is a problem here, but in 3 months everything is at 97% or above, so I can hope.

Impressive: 3 months and at 97% or better.
I have been out 1 week and PP = 96%, LS = 97%, Hull = 97%.
I'm not too worried, as I only plan to be out 5 more weeks.
But I do need to be more careful.
Scooped too close once, and forgot to pull throttle to zero on one jump.

It used to be 98% for two months, but yesterday night i didn't hear the impact alarm while scooping a stupid M.
