PvP Need some expert Opinion again (Corvette)

I know what you will be thinking, 'Why is a mere solo player asking PvPer's for advice?'

I don't have anything against the PvP, it's just a different playstyle that's all. however if there is one thing I admire is the creative (and deadly) builds that this community is renowned for. this is where I have a question to ask about my corvette.

I have been tinkering around with potential weapon configurations, something fresh and new. Currently it has Twin size 4 Plasma and 2 turrets, the only hardpoints I found irritating is the size 2's and size 3. which have a shocking convergence rendering fixed weapons irritating to use. I find if anything is smaller than an Asp in diameter the shots will just fold around it with the size 2's.

I have tried 3 pack hounds in the past, but with the new CZ super ships they just laugh at the rockets. I then tried an experiment using a pacifier cannon along with 2 fixed regular cannons. and whilst the pacifier is great! the cannons barley hit much.

just wondering how players have overcome this? should I have used gimballed mounts on the size 2's? but then again gimbal is gross, just can't think of many weapons that fit the slot well. I tried Ihammers too, but found that 1/3 of the shot is wasted anyway.

Although I will use it predominantly for PvE, I don't mind having to restock ammo, just that it reliably deals damage to my opponents.

Any thoughts?

I use my corvette for PVE and I found a loadout that I love.

I use gimbaled beams (long range, thermal vent) in size 2&3. I use turret frag cannon (one thermal one corrosive) in size 1s. Then I use the huge auto loading multicannons. It melts any NPC. I also run a fighter with beam lasers, as the faster the shield comes down, the quicker the multis can unleash. I was able to stay out in haz Rez for a while. Frags always run out first but synth is cheap and they’re not essential to the equation

May i suggest you to post a link of your build using http://www.edshipyard.net/ ?

It will be easier for people to help you.

the only hardpoints I found irritating is the size 2's and size 3

My typical PvP vette loadout has turrets in these hardpoints.

I don't really use them for damage though, they are to deliver useful special effects and suppress shield regeneration on multiple opponents. The fixed weapons in my huge and small HPs are the primary damage dealers.

Here we go! sorry for the massive link, I have forgotten how to embed it into a word sorry :(

Sorry, there should be a size 3 Pacifier Overcharged with drag munitions in the size 2 slot. i forgot to add it.

You are more advanced than me!

;)

All kidding aside I use rails/hammers in the c1s/2s and a gimballed, OC corrosive MC in the c3.

I haven't tried this build in PvP conflict yet, but its perfect for pirate assassination missions. I rely on the packhounds to disable drives before the scoundrels can jump away.

All Multicannons. Except the smalls, put cascade railguns on those. The corvette is not nimble. In and out with PAs and Frags is a style more suited for medium ships. A corvette can give you a lot of sustained firepower on this setup, and has the bulk to be tanky enough to deal with it. Don't let fixed weapon people get down on you, the corvette is not agile enough to use fixed weapons as effectively as medium ships.

I personally run engineered so the 2 huges and the large are incendiary rounds, and the mediums are corrosive and emissive.

Some notes:
-The main mod you put on the MCs will depend on your fighting style and how much dakka you like, as well as how good you are at managing pips. If you want to go LR then you can, or rapid fire, or overcharged, when you're only fighting NPCs this is up to you really.

-The large has a decent firing arc *below* you, but not above you. With some practice, you can get it so you keep targets in the firing arc of your 3 biggest guns easily enough.

My favourite build:

Put Overcharged gimballed MC with auto loaders the size 4s and a gimballed corrosive MC on one size 1. This will maximise damage for the MCs

The other size 1 put a long range laser of your choice - this will drag NPCs from up to 6km to you, as the Vette is not very quick.

Put fixed efficient beams with thermal vent on the rest to kill shields as Target approaches and to negate chaff. These can also be fired when using SCBs so you don't need heat sinks.

The huge MCs with the overcharge, corrosive & autoloader will rip them a new one [yesnod]

something fresh and new. Currently it has Twin size 4 Plasma

I run this on my vette when doing PvE mat farming. Note however, I suspect for pure PvE something like twin efficient thermal vent gimbaled beams is more efficient to murder. I chose PA because I want to always be practicing my fixed aim, even in PvE, so I'm less scrubby at PvP.

My problem with the fixed PAs in PvE is that is very difficult to land shots on things like expert/elite viper3s. I have to rely on some smaller gimballed MCs and my SLF for those little guys until I git moar gud.

PAs work great demolishing condas and similar in PvE.

One note on small turrets. My favorite "annoyance experimental" is a S cannon with dispersal. It gives you the same effect as a M/L/H dispersal PA, at almost no disto draw. However, I find turreted cannons just miss all the time, even with some long range added. So I run them gimballed rather than turret. (This is probably more effective in PvP vs an opponent with gimbals than in PvE. Note ammo is a problem, expect to resynth.)

For lasers, turret probably better for those "annoyance" experimental affects like scramble and easier to coordinate with your firegroups.

gimbal is gross [...]
Any thoughts?

Gimballed is not gross and definitely has places it's called for. A PvE vette is certainly one of those places in my view.

It can even sneak into PvP at times. Some (not all, there are clear advantages to fixed) of the derision for gimbals is irrational in my opinion. If it increases ToT (time on target), and if you can force enemy to run out of chaff (or more commonly, they foolishly omit from their build, or aren't level headed enough to time it well) it can be very powerful.

good luck
