Need some help please

I have been stuck in the outer arm since March 9th. I tried to find a short cut across to the next arm coreward and got 3/4 of the way across before I had to turn back (stars were to far apart for me to make the jumps.) I decided to go clockwise towards the Crossing. I got within a couple of light years before I had to turn back there too. I have spent all the rest of this time trying to at least get back into a denser area of stars so I can continue onward. Every time I find such an area, it goes for a while and peters out. I then have to back track. I have backtracked so many times that I can't find my path back. I have a lot of systems with my name plastered on them now!

The problems I am having are in plotting any route of any distance. Most of the time I can only plot about 100 - 200ly at a time. The galaxy map is also not showing lines to systems that are in my FSD range. Even when it does show the lines, when I go to plot the course, it wont let me! I am so frustrated that I sometimes think I should just ram a star and get back home. I really don't want to lose my exploration data. But I am really tired of being stuck out here in the ass end of the galaxy.

Is there any way someone can help me find my way back to the center of the outer arm? I am currently in Rhooloea WF-L d9-3.

My advice is to manually plot and use the map references. The route plotter always has a senior moment when systems are scarce. Choose a system you want to get to, note down its co-ordinates, and then manually plot toward those co-ordinates. If you have jumponium use it, not much point just storing the stuff. This was the method I used to cross the void and other sparse areas. Also record where you have been so if you do dead end you can back track. But don't give up, we have all been there when things seemed impossible.

Like Whiterose said, Im using both Captain's Log & EDDiscovery to log my movements.

I notice from your position that you're around the 3k/x/x co-ords, there's a thread posted by Freebird around the 11/3/16, were the Abyss was crossed at around the 5.9k/x/x region.

I'm gonna attempt that crossing in my 29.16LY jump Asp....so i may be joining you 'stuck' in the Abyss in the coming weeks!

My jump range is 32 - 35ly depending on how much fuel I have on board. I don't have Horizons, so using Boost isn't going to happen.

I have tried to manually plot my course but I run into crap like this: I could only plot 4 jumps before I got the "Route Unavailable" message. Doesn't matter the the computer shows the next star connected with a line. That is as far as it would plot. They really need to fix this problem and the other problems with exploring.

I have found the route plotter won't plot my full range. For example, if I have 1/2 a tank and 34.5LY range, it won't plot a 33LY jump. What I do is enable Jumponium routes and move the slider to one notch. Then it allows me to manually plot a single longer jump, w/o actually needing to use any Jumponium. I don't know if it will allow you to plot longer routes this way - I never tried it.

Ouch!

Personally, i wouldn't have attempted to find a different route across the Abyss, other than my route out, without any jumponium.

You could well spend many weeks trying to find a new route....however, you may hit it lucky.

Even when I was crossing the Abyss, I manually plotted across on the galaxy map, star by star, until i got about 15-20 jumps strung together, then did that route & repeated.

You may well have to try to head in a NE heading to get a better star density

Been across is a few times with a range of 36ly, never flew on empty, but did use the odd basic jumponium (sure I could have done it without if required). My strategy:

1) Turn on Fastest Route lines
2) Follow the lines out in the direction I wish to go
3) Plot a route within Fuel Range (solid line) - That should be 5-7 jumps
4) Follow the route for 3 or 4 jumps
5) Bring up the map and reevaluate. You should be able to see if you are hitting a dead end, and see any vertical detours to avoid it. Follow lines with lots of options.
6) Goto 3

Hi CMDR

What i do when trying to cross the abyss is use the filter navigation panel and only have m class stars turned on they run across the abyss like streams winding back and fourth.

The trouble is they have gaps between them, luckily you will see where you have been because systems will show up to you.

Do you keep a log of any type.

I have been using EDDiscovery for the last 2 weeks. Doesn't help me a whole lot though. I have crisscrossed back and forth so many time and I can't get the 3D map to work (I keep getting an error message.)

Dommarraa, that is pretty much what I do now. To bad I keep hitting gaps in stars. I have found a lot of promising routes back to the main part of the arm. Then I get there and find that there is a gap. So I backtrack and try again in a different direction only to find that it too has a gap. I have been doing this for the last couple of weeks and I'm truly getting sick of it.

I am no longer trying to find a crossing on my own. I just want to get back to a thicker part of the arm so I can get back to the Crossing the Expedition took.

That's odd. I turned on FSD Boost to level 1 and the route I could pick from actually DROPPED!! It even dropped off the route I had just taken to get where I'm at.

I contemplated the self destruct option when I crossed from the Perseus arm into the Sagittarius arm because of all those "route unavailable" messages. What helped for me was to ignore them. I looked at the galaxy map and followed a promising looking blue line until the end. Then, I highlighted the stars nearby and looked at the little halo hat thing that shows you all the stars you could jump to from the one your mouse is hovering over. Then I'd hover over one of those and look again at all the little halo hat things and so slowly was able to see that there WAS in fact a route or alternatively that there definitely wasn't one. Remember to check up and down as well as around.

Also, zoom about and look around a bit and find where the stars are denser. Head that way!

I do appreciate it is incredibly frustrating, especially when you find you actually can get to places that the route planner has told you are inavailable.

Hello CMDR

I think I would be able to help you out. Right now I'm coming back from BP point, because I have nothing else there to do there without Horizons. I was planning on crossing Abyss almost straight and find a new way, but I would change my route to help you out. You are around 5k ly from me, so I think I would be able to reach you tomorrow at around 20:00 game time.

Is that what that little 'hat' means?? I've been playing all this time and had no clue that is what it meant!! LOL I will try that out when I get home and see how it works (I'm at work as I reply. I know, I'm a bad boy!)

Edgatas, add me to friends and we will see where things are then. Do no go backwards to get to me. Also, what is your FSD range? I might be able to help you with a route you can take across.

I want to thank you all for the helpful replies! I really appreciate it.
