Need some help with a creation

Hey guys/gals so I'm trying to recreate Tamatoa from Moana. He's the giant crab with shiny treasures on his back. The idea is to either center him around a coaster or put him near the entrance. I'm having some trouble creating him and all my attempts look like a child got their first pack of crayons and went to town on a wall. If any of you could help out, I know there's some insanely talented people in this community. Check out his part on youtube where he sings the song shiny. He's a complete badass.

Thanks in advance guys.

Maybe somebody will create this for you, but if you want to get better with the terrain tools, it would be best to start small. try making a simpler character like mickey mouse rather than something with claws and spikes all over it. making complex character figures can be quite difficult

So again opening a new thread with the same question for the 3rd/4th time in one week?

So many tips & tricks already been given and nobody is (still) willing to help. Maybe give up and try it yourself.

Hey Rich1989,

I recommend that you try it yourself. You'll get better if you build up experience with a game, so just give it a shot and see how it goes. From that point on, it can only get better! [up] [happy]

Like I said, I've tried to recreate him a few times and it just looks horrible.

I'll keep at it, but I've tried a 100 times lol. Practice makes perfect so I know it will eventually work out.

Thanks for not being a about it

You're welcome. Please do share pictures of your progress. Maybe we can advise you a little bit on your progress.

An idea that I can think of right now is to first create the basic body of Tamatoa with a large terrain brush, and add the details with a smaller terrain brush. You could also 'carve out' a creation by removing terrain.

Good luck! [up]

If you are using the terrain tool I would just take it slow. Don't have the intensity up real high and adjust the size in more refined and complex areas.
Do one part at a time and save it once you're happy with it. Probably best to start out with the body shape and get that right I assume.

Also remember that the shape won't have to be perfect because you can cover up any "ugly" bits with scenery, foliage and buildings. It won't look too out of place because he is covered in gold and shiny things anyway

Thank you, sir! Been fooling around a bit with the terrain tools since yesterday evening and I am happy with the way things are turning out. Because of how it looks, the layout for the coaster I plan on making around him, has also changed and for the better. I think it's going to take awhile to finish it up, but I'm a lot further ahead today than I was yesterday.

I'll post a picture of how he's coming a long, a little later on. I am quite surprised with how he's looking actually. Found some planet coaster terrain tutorials on youtube and just been going from there

Stick with it...just like anything it takes time and practice

Have you thought about making a likeness with random pieces from props and other folders?

There are chests of gold that, placed the right way, could make for that "treasure shell" on the character's back. Those art shapes can all be recolored as well, and people have come up with some really great stuff by using them in an innovative way.

There's a blueprint for Bowser from Mario Bros. in the workshop. I'd recommend downloading it and taking a look at how the author did it. It's a great example of a figure made from random pieces in the game.

There are also some animals made with mechanical parts...there's a lynx IIRC and a scorpion, as well as a few others. Might not be the style you're looking for, but all the same, it's instructive to see how they were made and get an idea of what's possible. I find looking at other people's work really helps me to see how pieces can be used in unusual ways.

Cheers
