So, I've set up home in a nice little system called VZ Corvi. It's a mix of agriculture and industrial, with large wealthy populations. I've been supporting the local ruling faction, New VZ Corvi Resistance, who currently stand at 55% influence in the system. As far as other players go, I've seen one trucking around in the area. Otherwise, it's just me.
My plan was to play with the influence mechanics, knowing that I probably couldn't change much, but I wanted to see if I could at the least eek New VZ Corvi Resistance's influence up by a percentage point or so. To this end, I've been doing missions exclusively for them and only selling at their ports. I've run missions from several ports as well, including ones they don't own.
My issue is that I'm at a complete loss on what I'm doing. Since I've been there, the faction's influence hasn't changed, despite doing numerous missions where it says their influence has gone up (always by 1%) in the post-mission briefing. I've tried different missions, done an assassination, run countless courier missions, and nothing has shifted. I haven't even had those happy blue arrows appearing next to them in the faction breakdown in the UI.
Lately, the only thing that seems to be happening is that the Resistance says it is taking influence from the local mafia, although the local mafia is already at 1%. This is despite doing missions that should have impacted on the federation. Hell, I tried running a covert weapons delivery in another system for another independent faction, the Green Party of Cybele, and even that told me that the Resistance had taken influence from the VZ Corvi mafia faction, despite that faction not having any influence in Cybele.
So, yeah. I'm at an impasse. I don't know whether to start concentrating on independent factions in surrounding systems, or whether to just leave and pick another system to experiment in. For anybody who has had luck in tweaking in-system dynamics, do you have any advice?
