Newcomer / Intro Need some trading advice

Hi all

I was set up ger port for awhile doing the community mission and then advancing. Managed to get my cobra in decent shape and to be honest always something to do. The trading was rather low profit at best 500 credits per ton.

So I decided to get some onioheads and tea and go deep into the empire. This brings me to my current situation. I am based out of a industrial station with a outpost less than 3 ly away that has 5 commodities that bring in over 1100 credits per ton. I have my croba able to Haul 44 tons a lift. Although the profit is mostly one way I can make about 200k an hour.

I now have to decide if I should buy a type 6 which would double my profits or head out to an area that has a larger diversity and amount of stations to do more missions.

So is my current situation a honey pot or fairly common.

Do the Type-6 but only when you can keep the Cobra as a backup/change. Type-6 is limited to only trade with 104t cargo iirc, so you'll want the Cobra combat capable.
Next logical step after the Type-6 is an Asp for two reasons, a) it carries 120t cargo and b) it is an ok combat ship for npc's etc. Altho a hefty jump in price but you will sell your Type-6 to move to the Asp.

Sorry to ask, what si a community mission?
A 'community goal' if you play in open there are certain missions available to work towards an event where the whole 'community' works towards the same objective.
I don't play open so i can't tell you more.

A mission that individual Cmdrs can contribute to but not complete on their own. In my case it was delivering medical supplies. At the end of a set time you get rewards based on your contribution as well as how well the community did as a whole.

Community Goals aren't restricted to open, you can participate in any game mode, be it open, solo or private group. There is nothing in Elite that is restricted to only one type of player.

Cool thanks. I've seen it spoken about a few times, not seen it in game yet and wondered what I was missing out on.

Depends what you feel like doing really, I tend to stick to trading - using one of the online trade tools to find better nearby deals tends to result in me doing a lot of exploration of nearby systems. When I get bored of working in that area, I move on to a new one. Sometimes I'll do a bit of both - if a sector is reasonably safe to operate in and there's a mission a system or two away, I'll detour en route for the extra money.200k per hour at least sounds reliable to me, but I can understand it getting a bit boring.
