Hi wonder if anyone can help a n00b out here by telling me what I'm doing wrong as I'm not getting the prompt to drop out of supercruise when nearing a destination and I'm overshooting my locked target. The prompt to use triangle doesn't appear at all and I can't slow down to regular throttle speed - help!

Keep your speed in the blue area and your ship will automatically slow down as you get closer and closer to your destination until you reach acceptable speed and distance to drop out safely.
There's two bars on the left with distance and speed. They have two bits of blue on them so keep your throttle in the blue on the right of the radar and then as soon as the the speed and distance are in the blue as well they you can drop out.

Full throttle until 7 seconds to arrival and then, centre in blue zone. You will slow down automatically until it says something like "destination lock engaged" and you can hit the button to drop out.
With most things it is actually faster to cut throttle at 5 seconds, overshoot and loop back.

To never overshoot your target destination, set a keybind for 75% throttle, as this is the middle of the blue zone in supercruise.

Thank you I have done the tutorial mission and it worked no problem, when I switched to solo play it stopped prompting me to drop out of supercruise.
I think it may have been that I was unlocking myself from the target by hitting X whilst checking menus whilst flying. So I simply kept in supercruise mode and overshot the target.
OK, got it, now the question is, how, which buttons and combination does one use? I am using a hotas, all the buttons are in a different location then I used to using on the ds4. Though I have a paper showing the layout, I've know idea which ones do what. I realize that some do some things in one stage of the game compared to other stages of game. Like driving compared to flying. For now I'd just like to know what buttons do what, later I can reassign them.
The message (at center of dashboard) is actually "safe disengage ready".
If dropping correctly you will get the "destination lock engaged" in the "log" (upper right area of HUD).
