Need way to check unclaimed carto and exobio data

Currently, the only way to check logged data for cartography and exobiology is at point of turn in. We really need a way to check how much is stored and vulnerable to loss, similar to pending transactions like unclaimed bounties, vouchers, and combat bonds. Could we get a page added to the discoveries section of the Codex that tells us what we're carrying with us?

I suspect they don't because they don't check for first discovery until cash in. They'd have to put a disclaimer on that this is the pre-bonus amount.

Or just stop the loss-on-death mechanic. We don't lose any materials on death afterr all. The only reason the design is to lose hours of game play time with exo or carto is a bad one.

I'm not sure how to make sense of this without the death mechanic being abused as an insta-warp. Let's say you take half a lap around the galaxy. You then self-destruct to spawn back in civilization and turn in all your findings at once, gaining 1st discoveries without having to race another explorer who does it the honest way. Materials is just a grind that otherwise have no value - sort of like currency. You don't lose every credit you have upon ship destruction.

Death is already way too cheap in this game, with extremely little penalty.

IMO it should be the exact opposite of what you are saying, ie. they should make it even more punishing for you to be destroyed, not less. Of course this wouldn't be a very popular change, but that's just my opinion. There has to be at least some challenge to this game.

Ideally I agree, except its too easy to die from game software issues. Its not very nice to be punished for something outside of the player's control.

The software needs to be rock solid, bug free, and reliable FPS if death brings severe punishment.

The "death needs real punishment" forgets this is a game. I have limited time to spend grinding for anything, dying is enough of a hit to my ego that it is enough. You get a almost-free replacement ship, you keep tonnes of iron and carbon and other materials. Why shouldn't you get to keep data too. If you think dying in game should be a real consequence then the only fair result should be a complete restart with a sidewinder. Nobody, not even the biggest advocate for more punishing, is going to suggest that!

The fact is, playing the game is about playing a game. You have to hand in your bio data when you dock or risk losing it, there's nothing to be lost by letting people hand it in when it suits them instead.
