Newcomer / Intro Need your advice please

Ive posted here before awhile back so Im not entirely NEW but I never really got into the game and only logged about an hour in the main game after toying for about 2-3 hours in the Simulator. I am however new when it comes to being on the server so I want everyones advice that feels like helping a hopeful commander out.

What is the first thing I should really try as my profession when Im starting out on the multi server? Should I do trading, pirating, bounty hunting...ect...?

I have access to the Eagle as I got it as an extra ship upon pre ordering the game so should I use it or the Sidey as my starting ship?

I assume Ill need to start bringing in some large qauntities of cash so how do I go about that?

Just everyone chime in that can and tell me what I need to do starting out basically. :D

First thing: Move out from the starter area!

Find yourself a nice place a good dozen or so LYs away.
And then? Whatever tickles your fancy. I'd suggest upgrading the Sidewinder as you bounty hunt for a while. Can't give advice on trading ( don't do that :þ)
but it's pointless in the Sidewinder or Eagle. Those bounties will stack up quite nicely up to, say, 150k. Then, start making your Eagle awesome or buy an Adder.

I recommend Exploring or Bounty Hunting as starting careers. Trading and Pirating will both be a bit tough, and Mining stinks until you can afford a decent refinery.

If you decided to Explore, the Sidewinder. If Bounty Hunting, the Eagle.

I really don't understand the "Need Moar Cash Now" attitude so many players seem to have (I like the "Do what you enjoy, credits will eventually follow" approach), but if quick cash is your objective get a Hauler or Adder and eventually a Cobra to trade Rares. Once you've got enough for a T6, 104 cargo will mean you can usually find a normal commodities route that has better cr/hour than trading the rares.

I shouldn't have to say it, but here it is anyway:

Do all the tutorials. Watch all the official tutorial vids. Read the manual.

Good luck, CMDR.

Do some bounty hunting if you can at nav beacons or resource extraction sights, and run some light cargo delivery missions to build up some credits until you can buy better guns / ships.

the game is very daunting at the start...... stay largely in lawful systems until you can put up a fight... take on missions delivering , recovering to earn some credits to beef up the eagle... when its upgraded go to lawful nav points and take on ships you can beat for bounty.... credits build up quickly .. get a kill scanner for extra bounty... i wouldnt bother trading until you can get a cobra .... pirates can take your goods at will .... well thats what i found ....

Buy some commodities, pick a direction and check for stations in the systems you are going to. Get as far from your starter system as you can then sell your cargo and any exploration data you have picked up. Don't try bringing in "large quantities of cash". Just play the game. If you go for the must make money route you will either be disappointed at how little you make or you will get bored quickly (at least that's what I get from the Dangerous Discussion page).

And don't forget to keep an eye on your fuel. You don't want to jump into a system with no stations and have no fuel to get out.

All of the above but I'll add:

Try your hand at smuggling in the Sidewinder. Rip out the discovery scanner and fit an extra 2T of cargo space (for a max. 6T). Find a nice quiet outpost that you know has a black market then fly around in supercruise searching for a USS. Drop in to the USS and see if there are some discarded canisters. Scoop them up in your cargo hold and take them to your outpost to sell on the black market. I made quite a bit of spare cash doing that in my early days. It great when you find a small haul of something valueable, less so when it's a bunch of Grain...

You can take it a stage further and go looking for wanted ships at a nav beacon, sub-target their cargo hold, kill them and take their loot too. But that's slightly more involved and risky when just starting out.

Oh and another good tip. Before you sell any commodities always scan through the bulletin board. Sometimes there might just be a mission for something you already have and they will be 2x/3x the price and you'll also get a rep boost. There are less missions on their wanting stolen goods though...

I started 12 days ago with Sidewinder only. First thing was to explore systems around and enter data in my Commander's Log utility, while running some missions hauling stuff here and there. Once I had a good idea of the surroundings, I established my operational base in a Federation lawful system with a station close to jump point arrival so I don't spend too much time on SC.

Sold the Sidewinder to buy a Hauler and did a few days trading and missions (some good money with gold and other metals). Bought an Eagle, (equipped with C grade components + B grade power plant , 1 beam laser and 2 MCs, chaff launcher and shield cell bank) with the credits earned from trading.

Now dividing my time between trading/missions with the Hauler making good profits and hunting at Nav Beacon with the Eagle for the fun. I plan to hang around this system until I can afford a good Cobra (around 1M Cr) sell the Hauler and the Eagle and start looking at other places ( as a 1984 player, definitely will have to pay a visit to Lave ;) )

The goal is to enjoy the game, not using external trade tools to maximize profits, want to discover it myself. Plenty of time ahead... Further down the road I'd like to have a good exploration Asp and leave for deep space see what the galaxy looks like.
