Need your help CMDRs

Just another thread about naval progression. I would like to find out if this is tied in any way to your pilot federation rank. If you want to help please just provide the needed information, this thread is not about wether the system is bugged or what else might be necessary in order to advance.

Pilot Federation Ranks:

Combat: Master
Trade: Broker
Explorer: Mostly Aimless

Federation Rank: Ensign

Empire Rank: Baron

I did all fed progression missions, then decided to move to the empire (they pay more) so have done all empire progression since.

The key to rank ups is lots of boring, low paying missions. It seems that every 20-30 normal missions completed gives me my next rank mission. The most important thing is to ONLY do missions for federation or imperial factions. Pressing F4 will show you which faction is allied to who.

I'm allied with all the smaller factions but still doing mundane missions for them gives me the rank missions.

The only rank I have is Fed Midshipman and I believe I got to that on the strength of bounty hunting in Fed space and conflict zones work for Fed allied factions.
I have done very few actual missions as the pay is so rubbish!

After spending quite a while in one conflict zone (31 AQUILAE) I went elsewhere for a bit and got three Fed ranking missions in a row that were super easy!
1 – Go to the next system and drop off some documents, the trip was about 140,000ls, but no scan or problems at the dock.
2 – As above but whole journey was only a few mins, again no troubles at the destination.
3 – Here have a Sol permit.

Is it meant to be that easy?!

Thanks for the replies so far. My current theory is that you (for example) need to reach one of the master/broker/pathfinder ranks in order to reach ensign/baron in addition to the usual getting allied and doing missions stuff. So far your responses back this, but much more data is needed (or a statement from the devs...).

So if anyone reached one of this ranks without having a high pilots federation rank, please post!

Midshipman is the 3rd of 10 Federation ranks, it becomes much harder at the higher ranks.

PS Not in terms of mission difficulty, but in order to get the mission offered...

Expert/Merchant/Aimless and I got the mission for Baron in the Empire last week (back when I was Competent in combat), so I guess there is no requirement that you speak of.
