Netflix and Star Trek saved my (ED) Life

So I reached Jacques a few weeks ago and felt my interest beginning to wane - after all there isn't really that much to do - even with the inclusion of the Colonia Hub. So I naturally began to play a few other games on the side. Something a bit more pacey and in your face like World of Tanks and Dragon Ball Xenoverse.

A nice change really with there being direct player contact and shooting / beating. However this ment that Elite for a time became rather much background. Especially as we've signed up to Netflix and my wife and I are currently making our way through Stranger Things. Excellent by the way if you like Dungeons and Dragons, the 80s and Stephen King!

With this I kind of resigned myself to shelving Elite - at least until the new patch comes in. However, whilst ironing (yes it's a drudge but then shirts won't iron themselves - that and I iron better than my wife!!) and flicking through Netflix I stumbled across Star Trek: The Next Generation. Now, I've seen the odd episode but not really paid too much attention as I like to watch series in order even if most episodes can be considered stand alone... So I thought well hell, why not? I like Sci-Fi and strangely Star Trek is something I've never really watched (Star Wars fan over Star Trek) so may as well give it a try.

Now, I am only 6 or so episodes into the first season but it's captured my attention, and with this attention I have rediscovered the thirst for exploration and going where no man has gone ... So come Yesterday (Sunday) I re-activated ED, spoke to a couple of CMDRs and proceeded to begin a new exploration trip - and it feels glorious! Fresh and Interesting!

So, thank you Netflix and thank you Star Trek! I suspect my side games will take a bit of a back seat now (admittedly the break hasn't been all that long - maybe a couple of weeks tops). This CMDR is now ready to Netflix and Chill to the next patch!

It gets better!

Series 2 started to lose the "old" Star Trek episodic plot and take on longer "arc" stories stretching over more than 1 episode.
2x16 is called Q Who and is pretty much where it really came into it's own and stood on it's own 2 feet as a worthy series in it's own right.

"Encounter at Farpoint" is actually one of the worst episodes. Weirdly, although I'm a fan of Gene" Roddenberry, it's when he starts to have less input into the show that the series improves.

If you're out in the further reaches of the Elite galaxy you might want to listen to a podcast to help pass the time. These guys pull apart episodes of Star Trek to examine what makes them tick...

I can recommend them.

Yeah, takes a while to get going - Season 2 is ok, but (for me) it didn't really start getting great until Season 3, and as Frank says, 'Encounter at Farpoint' is terrible, with that as the pilot I'm surprised the series got made at all.

Oh boy you need to watch Voyager and Enterprise series you'll love them I think. Deep Space 9 is great as well. Huge Star Trek fan myself.

Encounter at Farpoint is redeemed by the S7 finale, All Good Things. It's not like they were planning it all along, though.

Star Trek, you say?

Loved Star Trek on NetFlix!

A couple years back I started to watch an episode a night just before bed beginning with the original 3 seasons, then TNG, then Voyager - man I forgot how good Voyager was!

Now I'm watching mostly DRV's of things like Designated Survivor, Goldbergs, Madam Secretary, Agents of Shield, Flash, etc.

Hehe I recently started with TOS and am now about 1/2 way through Season 4 of TNG mostly watched whilst jumping to Jaques and out exploring too :D

Voyager and Enterprise are the two worst Trek shows!

DS9 is excellent, although like TNG it took until the 3rd season for it to really get going.

I haven't watch TNG since the series was still on TV in the 90s. Loved it back then. Maybe Stranger Things and Star Trek TNG should be my next shows to binge watch.

You're crazy, voyager and enterprise were both pretty good, though the entire xindi arc could have never existed and I'd have been fine, lol.

The only trouble i can see with this is that you want to , but won't experience the same exciting story lines as the characters of star trek
but hey whatever gets you back in the game
