General / Off-Topic Netflix - Maniac

(i checked and searched but could'nt find a thread)

I started to watch this last night and ive got to say that only having made it in 5 episodes... that its pretty fantastic.

The direction is of feature movie quality but its a ten episode Tv series. The art design and direction is reminiscent of late 1970's early 1980's Sci-Fi with wonderful colours, retro music and old monochromatic computer technology.

The story revolves around a drug trial that is connected to an artificial intelligence machine interface which enables the patient to relive and lucid dream events in their past which may have been the cause of any psychological distress/stress which they suffer from as a result, the experiment is designed to help the patient face down and recover from that event. but some of the patients involved in the trial are not telling the truth about their interest in being there and wires gets crossed leading to a journey into an imaginative psycho-scape.

If you want a trippy, well presented science fiction series that you have to invest time and concentration into which then rewards you with great writing and moments of introspective insight... then give this show a wirl.

Espisodes 1 and 2 might be a little confusing as you get used to the way this series structures its story telling.... but once you are in, its fantastic.

I am slightly skeptical to any film, TV series or a game where fans feel the need to use "it can take time to get used to" prefix when introducing it to me, because I know myself and in most cases I simply don't get to that point where it "starts to be fantastic".

I'll check it out, though.

Well,... for the first two episodes i was wondering where everything was going.. so im just giving you a heads up... stick with it.
The first two episodes do actually build the back story to the main characters which you will need to know in order to understand how their minds work and what motivates them.

I know some people give up on a tv series if after a 2 hour, 2 episode investment nothing has hooked them. But i still enjoyed those episodes, its just that they are slowly building towards things.

its just my personal perspective (maybe i didnt need to say anything).

There has been some right.....SSHHHHHHHHH******TT on Netflix recently... but this show is definitely something special.

Yeah the outlaw king was disappointing. I'm binge watching Walking Dead and Bodyguard which is also a limited series worth watching. After that i'll check out Maniac.

I liked both Bodyguard and Maniac.
Narcos Mexico was very good.

I've been catching a few episodes of The Last Kingdom.
That's not bad so far; lots of good looking people and sets, lol...

Narcos Mexico is next on my list.... loved Narcos.

ive watched 2 seasons of The last Kingdom... i saw only last night that season 3 just landed. so i will be watching that also...

However i found that Uhtred's solution to everything was for him to go into a place on his own.... start a fire as a diversion and then win the day while everyone panicked.
i wonder if season 3 continues this lazy writing tradition.
