I obviously don't know the figures or indeed if this would be in any way possible (think of it as a feasibility question). Community goals being what they are attract a large number of people to single systems which then suffer quite bad lag due to the volume of people in that system (anyone who has been to Lugh will know what I mean).
For the most part P2P works ok because by its very nature we are spread out and when you do meet other cmdr's its usually a decent enough connection. My question is, how feasible would it be for FDEV to branch off community goal systems on a temp basis to dedicated servers and move to a more traditional client/server architecture.
Just writing it down has made me think it could potentially involve a lot of work but I'm no code expert, it was merely a passing thought that may provide larger groups a better experience to be had in the community goals and could obviously be adapted to accommodate which ever system the current goal was set in.
