Network Problems while playing with a friend

Hi! can anyone help me with my connection problem? I am trying to play with a friend in a closed game, I can invite him to my wing and see him on the map but not his ship ingame. Does it has to do with a different server? If so, how can i change it and play with him? We are in the same group ingame.

have you enabled wing beacon?

check this video for the basics on wings, still relevant today even though the menu looks a little different.

if that fails relog to the menu and try again, happens to us Fuel Rats all the time.

People did report epic issues not matching with FD accounts, but that could have resolved now due to the peak declining? Just a thought.

Some times even though people are in the same wing and private group the servers won't place you into the same instance. Try to use wing beacon and drop / go to supercruse, just try to switch instances until you "find" each other. (Actully it should work the first time when you drop from supercruse into normal space using the wing becon.)

I didn't see this thread, but started my own about disconnect issues and getting sent back to the desktop. Seems like alot more last week and this week than prior to that. FDev needs to be aware, via threads like yours and mine.

Try Open (if only just to test). My guess is your issues will go away.

Private group networking is always patchy for me. I often just give up on it and go Open.

We tried in open. Not working. I will try the beacon later. Never knew that was a thing. Whenever i was playing with a friend before it worked.

I am playing on Steam and he's on Epic. I got the free version in Epic as well and didn't work. And what is peak declining?

We (my regular wingmate and I) see this from time to time. It's just a bug, relogging usually fixes it..eventually. We used to play in a small Private Group - so not much choice on who to instance you with, generally there was just us - and it happens there from time to time.

Note: there were some odd issue between Original/Steam and Epic versions of the game, not sure if they've been resolved or not. I've only tried instancing with my Alt (Epic) a coupe of times and it's worked ok.

Scoob.

I meant the peak number of users declining mate, as in the huge influx is tailing off a bit now in the area. Hope that makes sense.

Elite uses peer-to-peer networking unlike most MMORPGs. This is half a blessing and half a curse - if it works, it is a much faster experience, but it is much more exposed to various client (meaning the player's internet provider, router and pc) network configuration issues. Like, if a player is behind a strict firewall or VPN, or in a country with internet restrictions it could cause a problem to be able to play with others. What I want to say is, if there is a problem in connecting to someone, it is very possible that the problem is not on your side, but on the other's.

Half relevant only:
  1. There are network configuration options in the game, which you can tweak things a bit - though it is very technical, and 95% don't need to touch it. Using a VPN or using a strong/strict firewall and you may need to set some things up there.
  2. I have an Epic alt and a normal main, and I can play in a private group just fine running on the same machine. Thus, this doesn't include a real internet network usage, however it does include local network layers and usage. I just say this (sorry this is a bit technical), that I don't think there is a bug in the game with this, the problems come from various network configuration and internet (provider and client) issues.
