Newcomer / Intro Neutron Highway

I went there and back by normal jumps mainly because I wanted the data and was wary of Neutron jumps. Didnt get a great deal of data but did the trip in about 4 hours. Didnt want to self destruct because I would lose my data. Wasnt too bad. 10K LY in 4 hours. Bodes well for my Colonia visit eventually.

How low do people let the FSD get (health wise) before they stop using neutrons? Im at 59% 7k out from Jameson.

Didn't knew you can run it that low. I've used neutrons all the way across the galaxy to the Ishum's Reach and back on AspX and Cutter without docking anywhere in the middle and never let my FSD to drop below 80%. I wasn't comfortable running it any lower. I'm using AFMUs for the trips like that, so when it gets low I'm just fixing it up real quick. If you have AFMU but out of amo you can synthesize it from common materials found on the planets.

No afmu. Im returning from sag A via colonia. so nearly home. every NS boost looks to lop 1% off fsd

You should be OK down to about 20% - I think that is the figure where failures are more likely to occur. I remember long time ago reading that below 80% you have chance of failure but 20% was a threshold for greater likelihood. I have never gone below 80% so don't really know, just spouting what I recall reading (and could be way off).

Good luck.

I'm extra cautious, I never let it go below 85%. I hear after 80 it starts to potentially cause problems, but I have no idea what the specific odds are of it happening. Best to avoid those problems at all costs though, as it's so easy to fix and prevent issues even occurring.
