Neutron star boost - cannot use it in Anaconda. Me no understand......

Ok, probably answered thousands of times by now but how on earth do I use the neutron star boost?

here's the scenario.

Anaconda with standard sized fuel tank plus 6a FSD with lvl 4 range boost. In total the ship has a jump range of 49.75 laden and 52.xx unladen.

Ok, so plotting a route to Colonia it is trying to use jet cone boosts.

Plots a 198Ly jump - Exceeding 8 tonnes usage.
manually I set the route finder to maximum cargo capacity (64 tonnes). plots 191 Ly - Same.

Ok, so I try manually setting 180 Ly - Same,
then 160, 150, 140, 125, 100, 85.... - All the same results.

So, the star is meant to give me +300% boost, but I can't even get +100%. may as well just manually make jumponium...

Can someone explain how this works and what am I fundamentally missing?

Here is comes (stpe by step discription (manually))

When hitting the newtron star you will get you boost ones you are in the cones of the star. NB: this is damaging your modules and dropping off SC while overloading will kill your ship.
You will be notified that FSD is overcharged now then leave the cone as quick as possible. Now you can check the galaxy Map about next location set and adjust if needed.
White dwarfs deliver a lot less additonal jumprange.
Note it is not possibple to stack jumponium and overcharging.

Miklos

So if I understand the OP correctly, you supercharged from a neutron star and you did not get 200% increase in range? I'm not sure what the problem is exactly. White dwarfs will give you less range boost than a premium jumponium boost.

¿Did your ship notify you supercharged?
If not then turn on your fuel scoop and try again.
If yes then, ¿Is your star a neutron star or a white dwarf?
If it's a neutron star then I guess its a bug.
If it's a white dwarf then you won't get 300% boost but something like 30% boost I belive.

Fuel Scoop active.
In supercruise.
Carefully, fly slowly into the jet cone of the Neutron Star without crashing into the Exclusion zone.
Your ship will tumble uncontrollably.
Stay in the jet cone until you see the notice that your FSD has been supercharged.
Throttle up slowly until you exit the jet cone.
Note your FSD has taken 1-2% damage.
Look at your ships Functions panel and note your jump range is now 4x (400%) of normal.

I get the “fsd operating outside normal limits” message, I’ll double check to see if it’s actually overcharged. Do I need to wait longer in the cone? I get the warning as soon as I pass through it...

Yeah. The warning is not enough and if you pass through quickly you won't get the supercharge. You need to sit in the cone for a few seconds until you get an additional message that your FSD has been supercharged. I often pass through too quickly and have to flip around and go in again to get the charge.

Yup :).

Sat in the cone for longer (sometimes it took about 20s or so other times just 4 or 5s to trigger) and now she's getting 198Ly per jump :).

Cheers :).

Im in a keelback near bleae thua lg-y d101. Ive never tried to supercharge my fsd before and im going to colonia. Should i try it and if i do, does anyone know where i can land to make repairs along the way?

If you've never done it before, look for some tutorials on YouTube or in the forums.
There's an element of danger to it and it will only save you four jumps. The gist is to enter the jet cone at an angle facing away from the star and don't run into the exclusion zone.
You'll lose 1-2% from your FSD each time you do it. Your FSD will work fine until ~79% at which time you may start to notice some malfunctions as you attempt to charge for the next jump.

Don't even try it with a white dwarf. WDs are much more dangerous than a NS due to their relatively large exclusion zone and the lame boost you get is not worth the trouble.

I would not recommend using the NS boost unless you have an AFM on board.
That said, there are a number of stations on the way to Colonia. You can see a map here ... https://www.edsm.net/en/galactic-mapping#2/0/0/25000|deepSpaceOutpost

With what Major Klutz said in mind....

If you are already skilled at jumping, and get some practice with neutrons, they can really boost your travel speed. My last trip from Colonia to the bubble took between 4 and 5 hours. A little less than half what a normal trip would take me.

CMDR grnbrg.

Check your modules. If fuel scoop has been disabled or turned off you won't be able to neutron boost.
