Neutron star plume

I experienced something new recently. For the first time, while using the plume to supercharge my FSD, I screwed up. The plume from the star extended barely past the exclusion zone and while charging the fsd, I crossed the yellow and fell to normal space. Still in the jet cone thing, my ship was tumbling wildly out of control and the modules were disintegrating. It seemed impossible to escape by either high or low wake. Wasn't long before I just selected self destruct so I could pay the rebuy and be on with my business instead of tumbling around pointlessly dying slowly. My question is this: can this scenario be escaped from? Is there a trick I didn't think of? Yea git Good and dont crash ok I git that. But if it does happen, what can be done?

It's possible, theoretically.

The "best" way to escape is to use your nav-HUD to select the nearest system and engage your FSD to jump out.

Trouble is, your ship's probably tumbling and there's no guarantee that you'll be able to align with the system you've chosen.
In that case, go back to your nav-HUD and pick a different system and see if you can align with that one.
And then try another, and another...

If you're lucky, there'll be a system you can align with and jump to, before your FSD snuffs it.

It has been said that by boosting at the last moment it is possible to lock in a Hi Wake.

Personally I think that's almost impossible.

Getting caught in a Neutron Star cone / exclusion zone combo or white dwarf requires extremely fast reactions to escape.

First pop a heatsink via hotkey (so hardpoints dont deploy). then left panel and set a random system that isnt behind the star and blocked off. Get an AMFU working on your canopy immediately while charging FSD, blow another heatsink the moment you can (heat will be insane here so do your best to pop it) other than that just pray for some luck as all your modules will be rapidly disintegrating, so just aim at the system and spam those heatsinks and pray you get the jump initiated (and that FSD / thrusters do not go out).

I survived it... nearly! I managed to get out of the cone by a low wake and Boosted in the right moment to align the ship to the flight vector. Unfortunately the canopy was broken and the repair limpeds were still some month away... this happened near Sag. A.

Iv not had to escape for a couple of years now.

There was a game bug that CTD occured after you re-charged your FSD & jumped to the next system. Upon reload you'd be in normal space inside the NS jet taking damage.

I also hit the exclusion zone while charging at a WD once.

There's a bit of luck involved, trying to ignore the damage being taken, I just hit maximum speed, waited for the FSD cooldown to complete then hit 'J' to Low Wake out.

The luck is in the ship spinning around & catching the escape vector........then out you go.

BTW Heatsinks????? never had them on board any of my ships!!!
