Neutron Stars

Just found my first neutron star to enter, but have read before that others have gotten "stuck" in them before. Don't know if that was an early issue, since resolved, or not. Would really rather avoiding the rebuy screen, lol.

Inputs appreciated. I have 300 or so newly-discovered systems on the line.

Thanks!

If you go into the stream coming from the star, and fail a bit, its deadly. Just set your throttle to zero when jumping, and it's ok.

IMO, it's a dangerous way to save yourself four jumps.
Do some research before you try it.
There are plenty of you tube videos on how to safely supercharge and also plenty on how to escape if you drop from SC.

Your FSD will take damage. 1-2% each time you do it. So if you don't have an AFM, it's not sustainable.
If your FSD drops below 80%, you risk FSD malfunction and could be dropped out of SC while in the jet.

If you hit the exclusion zone and get dropped out of super cruise, getting out can be a problem because of the way the jet buffets you around.
You may not be able to align to the escape vector or to a destination for high wake.
It's possible to escape if you chose a jump destination that is in front of you that you can align close enough for the jump, or you can supercruise out if you can get moving fast enough toward the escape vector.

Don't mess with white dwarfs ever. Their exclusion zone is too large compared to their jets and the jump boost you get from them is the same as FSD injection, so they are not worth the risk.

The first time I tried it was when I was safe back in the bubble and a re-buy screen didn't matter.
I stay well away from the exclusion zone and angle so I just pass through the tip of the tail.

I never found supercharging from a Neutron star to be worth it, unless I am just going to a system 100LY or so away. It won't work if you have a route plotted at all and really not worth the effort of screwing up or damaging your hardware on your ship if you mess up...

Neutron stars are completely safe if you zero the throttle before arriving, and you don't go anywhere near the jets.

You can use the jets to supercharge your FSD; a neutron-supercharged FSD can jump 200% further than your officially rated maximum. Be aware this does slightly damage your FSD (I think it's only 1 or 2 percent per supercharge) so don't do it unless you absolutely have to get somewhere quickly, you're out on the fringe and need to do it to reach wherever you're going, or you've got an AMFU or two onboard to repair the damage.

The lethality of neutron stars mainly happens if you drop down into normal space while still inside the jet. It'll toss your ship around uncontrollably until it eventually flies apart completely and it's very difficult to break out of. So make sure you don't do that.

Thanks all! Took the plunge and have since found another.

Pretty cool graphic, and each unique looking. Not a cookie cutter approach. Impressed!

Yes they really improved how they look which I'm happy about. Before they were just tiny pin pricks that you couldn't even really see and did nothing but destroy your ship if you got to close without knowing where it was. Now they're fun to visit...

if you're heading towards the core you'll arrive at the neutron star fields and soon be sick of the sight of them..

this used to be the best way to make money with exploration pre the 2.3 patch..
once you've seen a couple they tend to loose their novelty, untill you see something different...

... Like a binary pair of Neutron stars

Zero throttle on jump in.
Stay calm.
Target and scan.
Scan done... dive away {for me its straight down} (no throttle just put the star behind you)
Then drive away (nice and cool)
Cash in
$$$

I wouldn't risk 300 scans on a Neutron star unless I did about 100 boosted jumps.

Sometimes the exclusion Zone won't Show up on the HUD and you would Crash into it. So always Keep a safe distance.

Throttle down to Zero as soon as you are in the Jet, concentrate on maintaining your heading, then throttle up as soon as you hear "FSD Supercharged"

I thought that the idea of 'supercharging' your FSD was brilliant, so I used this method to jump whenever I could when out exploring.

Then came along the issue/bug - I started getting (as other cmdr's did too) server disconnects when in a NS/WD system or when jumping to the next system. Upon reload, the game placed you back inside the jet cone with your ship taking severe module damage & you were very lucky to get out of the jet without seeing the rebuy screen.

This happened to me on several occasions, annoyingly when I'd moved well away from the NS & had been scanning other planets in the system. The damage taken by my ship was always moderate to severe.

So I then decided to avoid the systems until FD acknowledged that they'd sorted the issue out.

Thankfully (eventually) they did resolve this issue & I can report that I am now closing in on Beagle Point, after making a trip through a NS field in order to speed up my trip there.
All this with none of the earlier issues.

My trusted method is

Enter the system at 0% throttle, scan the NS.
Choose the longer of the two streams (this is the one coming towards you), turn towards it slowly at around 5% throttle, making sure that you are entering the stream near the end of the jet stream while moving away from the NS.
When you enter, it'll take around 5 seconds to charge, then hit full throttle to escape the stream.

Keep an eye on your FSD module, it's losing 1% per jump. When the damage drops into the high 80's, drop out of SC & repair.
