Never-ending mass lock?

I probably shouldn't ask this, since I've already self destructed (thereby suffering my first death ever--I knew my first would be undignified but self-destructing due to an apparent bug is just tragic) but has anyone had problems getting out of mass lock in a RES? I was doing some bounty hunting before bed, made about 315k in vouchers, decided to leave, and couldn't. I flew--boosting all the way--in the opposite direction to anything and everything in that RES, and the game still insisted I was mass locked.

The first thing I tried was logging out and back in, to no avail. Double checked all around me, zoomed my radar right out, nothing. There was nothing anywhere near me, yet I couldn't enter supercruise because i was, apparently, mass locked.

Was self destruction the only answer? If I should've done something else, well, I only lost about 500k factoring in rebuy + lost bounty vouchers, so it could've been worse. Still seething though.

With "the ring" horizontal, I usually just fly upwards and boost a couple of times. The mass lock should end once you're short distance away from the asteroids.

Funny thing is, there weren't any asteroids. The RES looked to be between rings and I didn't think anything of it since it was brimming with juicy wanted scumbags. Should I give these RES a miss in the future?

Sounds like a bug, you dont have to go that far to escape mass lock. Fly up far enough away from the asteroids

You still get mass locked in those areas. Those they're great for flying about and not having to worry about crashing into an asteroid you've somehow failed to notice ^_^

My advice still applies. Unless you can repeat it multiple times (take the free Sidewinder out for a spin, it'll save you money if you need to self destruct), in which case report it as a bug.

Happened to me a few times. If you quit to the main menu and restart you end up exactly where you were without he mass lock.....you will lose a fortune in rebuys if you self destruct each time mate

I had this with a capital ship yesterday. I couldn't even thrust forward or back! In the end I thruster straight upwards and got clear!

Dammit, so I should've tried to find "up" and boost in that direction? I never even gave it a thought! What I get for playing it when I'm tired I guess. I'm more gutted it was my first death than I am about losing the credits, but dying to my own stupiditiy seems about right.

Argh! Sorry mate I have experienced this and it's super frustrating. I tried a few things and eventually coming right out of the game and closing the application then going back in did it. If you really have got a lot of bounties and a decent ship and experience something like that it's worth just saving and logging a ticket with support. Hope you have a better day today. I always try to quit when I feel tired as I don't always make the best decisions. Fly safe CMDR o7

I was attempting to leave a planet once. I gave some thrust, turned 90 degrees upward and full throttle with some boost.A half hour later I was at or about 2.5 km's above the planet, then I realize my landing gear and weapon were deployed. Disengaged them and took off like a shot. Ahhhhh, the learning curve.
