Never thought I would say this but..... I am thinking I may not order CV1 after all.

I was expecting big things from Oculus this week, exp after all the valve stuff.

It is possible Oculus are just keeping quiet but the only noises from the Rift camp have been about their mobile stuff with nothing about their PC HMD.

I must admit, even if oculus announced pre-orders from today for summer deliveries......... 3 days ago I would have been throwing my money at it, but right now......

I am questioning if maybe all the nay sayers and doom mongers were not actually on the money after the facebook buy out and oculus are now FAR more interested in mass market mobile phone appeal.

Certainly its a long way from the Palmer Lucky of a few years ago saying things like even the next gen consoles are too weak for VR, if a phone can do it, a ps4 can do it!!!.

I may still go oculus, but imo Valve/HTC are making way better noises right now for the pc user imo

I just hope that all these HMDs are cross compatible. Apparently there have been noises from oculus that this may not be the case - tho i cant find a direct link right now to support.

It's something I've wondered about for a while.

If things go very Facebooky the DK2 will possibly be more in demand than the CV1

I've got the DK2 and as long as I can get it to run on ED I'll be happy.

I'm pleased that there are others coming into the market and healthy competition can only be a good thing.

VR is something I've dreamed about since I was a kid and it's still a very exciting time.

I'm in the same boat... was gonna get the CV1 but Vive is looking mighty good.

For me it'll depend on what each unit offers, particularly the res and any screen door effect and price.

Not really interested in being able to walk around the room as I'll be sitting in a cockpit mostly.

Are there Development kits already out for the Vive? I know for a fact that FD supports Oculus. Seeing as this is the game I'm most interested in, I'd be waiting to see if they do support it before I change my mind.

When the FB buyout was announced there was a outcry, that's settled down but TBH I get the feeling it will start up again. I really hope not but I do have that uneasy feeling.

true!

could you imagine if ED was "Rift Ready" only and Star Citizen was "VIVE supported" only

I would be gutted! I really hope this does not happen. everything needs to fall into the "VRready" category imo.

The Internet loves to shoot down people off the pedestals they themselves put them on, but its too soon to tell what the fallout from GDC will be. I am personally a little disappointed with NVIDIA, but there is still time for them to pull a VR driver out of the hat in two weeks time. Oculus are what they are a VR company that are heavily invested in mobile VR. What we don't know yet is how ready they are for a CV1 release of a PC RIFT. No announcement does not equal a failure at this point. Don't write them off just yet as it may well come to bite you in the ass when the Internet torch bearers and doom mangers turn back into oculus fanboys :)
My money is on at least three CV1 headsets to choose from for xmas ... And I'm gonna buy them all!!!!

Been a bit of disappointment here tbh, I was expecting a lot more from Nvidia and Oculus as well as a few others. Maybe this is the hurry-up they need.

I'm also surprised - and a bit disappointed - that Oculus have let Valve and Sony make a lot of noise about VR without getting a word in edgewise. Having had a DK2 for a week now, I'm wondering if Oculus is stalled trying to come up with a solution to the problem of the need for higher res screens vs. PC performance impact.

It will be difficult to push "consumer" VR if, in addition to a $350 Rift, people are told they need to buy a $600 graphics card (2 really if you want to play anything on settings above medium) in order to push images at 1440p 90Hz <-- rumored specs of CV1

This is an area where Sony could have a slight advantage: due to Project Morpheus being a game console peripheral, you know that it will "just work" right out of the box with anything compatible with it. However, I'm wary of Sony add-on tech after the way they pushed PlayStation Move so hard only to drop support for it almost immediately. The last thing I need is more expensive console equipment that only works for the two games it launched with...

The Vive definitely looks like something to keep an eye on, but I agree with Mad Mike that PC games need to support all HMDs and not just one or the other. I don't want a "console war" to start over PC VR.

Nah.. oculus has always been pretty quiet. I think one day, out of the blue, there will be an announcement, with specs, and a release date, and all hell is going to break loose on VR. 1st Q 2016 is where my money is.

They better be doing something cause if ED is going to support VIVE and Oculus just stays quiet there will be a whole lot of ship jumping going on

Something is telling me they are figuring the way to hardwire the Rift into facebook. *shivers*

It's when they start hardwiring Rift users into FaceBook:-

"This new headset looks like it's got spikes on the inside"

"It feels funny when I put it on.. Like it's drilling into my skull."

"You know, a lot of nasty things are said about FaceBook but it is a really nice service... and my personal information is perfectly safe with them"

Just because everybody else (sony, HTC, etc) showed up fashionably late to the VR party and got fresh attention does not mean Oculus is going to be a dud. They just don't have anything new to say. We know the release is late this year/early next year. Any further work is going to be boring to the average consumer or minor in detail. Any additional features are best kept quiet so that these new developments from HTC and friends don't get themselves any more snuggly seated in the bandwagon they have already jumped on.
Everybody wants to make sure they get in this boat, they saw the corpse of Nortel and don't want to be the next victim of failing to move forward.

I am definately going to end up buying the VR setup that goes the way of Betamax. I know it.

At least I will be able to play Farmville in VR :-[

But it's looking pretty sweet for VR at the mo. We're definatley on the edge of something a bit good.
The Vive really turned my head. The only downer (apart from ED) I've found with the VR experience is control interface. Current WASD/Mouse or Controllers just dont quite fit. Their solution is intruiging.

I am also still waiting to see when the "Teabag Headband Addon" gets released for the Morpheus. The console kiddies would love it. "Uber kill - Press Triangle to teabag downed player in proper sweaty 3Dness".

Even if I'm impressed with the Vive tracking system, as an old PC gamer (48 Yo) I don't think I want to play stand up with 2 controllers in hands dancing like a teenager in front of my computer (llke a WII casual gamer). I'm more on simulation (Cars, trucks, space, etc.) so I'm more waiting for a seating solution and the Oculus tracking camera is more than enough for my needs. So my money will go to the one having the best display system first (SDE, resol, etc.). Controllers could be fun I agree, but I'm playing using my Wheel, Hotas, etc. so not a real need for me. The price will also be a decision maker, and I hope the Oculus CV1 will keep around what they announced. I think the Vive will probably reach the > 600$...
