New Adventurer Reporting in - well sneaking in quietly with possible stupid questions

People remember things in different ways and putting them in order is irrelevant (imo) for scooping, they're many ways to remember scoopables use what works for you, KGBFOAM is the one that sticks in my head possibly because it is the most stupid just like a science teacher once told me

"My Very Elderly Mother Jumped Straight Under Niels Porsche" its rediculous and there are far more logical ways to order things but hey I remeber it over three decades later, the beauty of the human mind is we all tick differently and they're are no right or wrong answers, pshychology is a marvellous thing instead of asking why use x ask what do 2 humans visualise in their head when they see a word, the answer will be infinitely different.

Your humor detector needs more pips put into it ;)

Morning CMDRs

Still out in the Black - progression has been slow as I am still scannning the wrong bloody planets, although last night I actually jumped, honked, scooped - check system map and decided nothing looked interesting and moved on - so hopefully I didn't miss an ELW

Anyway back to the silly questions - atm, I am flying in and around the OOCHOST Systems just further on from the Califona Nebula - I have a route now but cannot remember the destination as I am at work - but they look like 2 blackish / grey clouds on the map if that helps. I keep reading about farming Neutron Stars / Systems and there is a Sticky in this section with an explanation about where to find them but what I cannot get my head round is - how do you farm a Neutron Star / System. I know its good money and would probably like to start heading that way - but do I need a mining laser or is the farming just a round about way of using my advanced scanner pointed at the Neutron Star

Again - thanks for the comments / suggestion and sorry for what for some will look like silly questions

Neutron farming is just surface scanning the neutron stars. So not the Advanced Discovery Scanner, but the Detailed Surface Scanner (DSS). The thing is, neutron fields are packed with neutron stars, lots of them not scanned, and each neutron star is worth quite a bit where it comes to body scans. So, with vast neutron fields you can just jump from neutron to neutron and scan huge amounts of these in a short amount of time, earning you lots of cash. No mining laser required, even if it was possible to get in laser range of a neutron star, which of course it's not, you'd be firing your laser at the densest stuff in the universe. If the Neutron Star could talk, at that point it would probably say something like "oh, that's adorable" :p

So thanks for the information - and being at work I struggle looking at Star Maps but my location(00CHost Systems) I am better is at least 600 trillion bloody jumps from the Neutron Stars, time I got home and looked at the next 2 weeks of travel to go look at earning some money :)

BTW - this game is just Win Sauce and if anyone hasn't yet tried Elite Dangerous and HTC Vive I would 100% recommend it - I played for a couple of months in normal mode then got the Vive and it open a whole new world of immersion. Expensive, Yes - worth eaqting Beans for a month or two, yes, putting the kids into care for a month - yes but I will be honest it took weeks after I got them back for them to talk to me. Its Christmas - treat yourself to a Virtual Relality Headset and move into the next level game playing

So...This adventuring and discovery is hard and i mean hard - let me explain
I am now out in the Black proper - been out now for nearly 2 weeks (yes I know you hard core guys have been out months but when you are used to landing in stations and buying stuff or actually seeing other ships - 2 weeks is a long time), anyway - I am loving it - except - plan 1000LY section, see it as 51 jumps and off you go, first 10 or so systems you explore the sh*t of of them, you check your distance and you still have 40+ jumps to go and this is just a leg of the trip (with no end goal), so I think to myself, jump, honk and look at System Map whilst scooping, check out local planets etc and if any looks interesting, go and scan then, rinse and repeat. Now thats fine but for some reason I am alway seem to be in a hurry to get the 51 jumps to end that 100LY leg and plan the next 1000LY leg.
How the hell do you Guys do this and still find time to do stuff becasue I am now finding myself looking at System Map, seeing 42 planets / stars and thinking - o God this going to take ages, sod it, and jump through to the next system because I didn't see anything that looks really really interesting.

Also as a side note - actually found a planet with a higher than 1G gravity and so i went o see how hard it was to land my ship on there - Trusty old T6, managed it no problem, didn't even bend the shields, saying that I went so slow the Sun set about 4 times whilst doing it - but was fun and nerve wracking at the same time. Found a few Water Worlds, but still haven't found the ELW yet

What you decide to scan and what balance between scanning and travelling makes you happy will evolve over time. I always scan something in every system and then decide whether to scan other things based on value, prettiness or my mood. Give it time and you'll figure what works for you - if you feel like you're getting nowhere and that irks you then scan less, if you feel like you're not paying enough attention and you're probably missing things then slow down a bit. Tweak until you achieve the calm of Explorer-Zen.

CMDRs

Merry Christmas and all that Festive stuff - hope you all had a great time with Family etc
Still out in the Black - found 2 ELW's (untagged) so hey go me :)
Last night I was actually getting bored when I cam across a Planet with (for me anyways) a HIgh G Atmosphere, hmmm, bored dangeroous planet - sounds like fun. Point and engage. Well that was fun, completely blew my sheilds to and did quiet a bit of damage to a lotof mods - but for some reason still got 100% of Hull - so fired up the "fiximabobs" and now shields are backup and all damaged mods looking good - actually on planet I finally found the last element I needed for the big jumping fuel - so now I have all 3 jump elements and can get 100% extra on a jump (woot woot)

So presently I am thinking about heading back to the bubble, so I can refit (I came with a 32 tonne Cargo Rack), maybe get a bit more done on my Engineering but mainly becasue I want to go look at these Neutron Stars (and earn some cash) and where I am is to eternatity and back from their location and would probably be fast heading back to the Bubble and then set out again, if that makes sense

Anyways - will see how I am when I get back ingame tonight afetr work and make the decision then

Ok - so got home last night, Logged in and Hey presto I was ok with still being out in the Black :)

So another silly question because I am struggling with the Galaxy Map and getting a general direction to travel in - atm I am in Oochoss MZ-E d12-2 and would like to head toward the Neutron Star Systems - what I have been doing is looking at the Galaxy Map and generally trying to fly in the direction of Sag "A" - from what i have ready the Neutron Belts are in that direction - so could someone please advise if my direction is right and if so - what sort of distances am I looking at, to start seeing these Neutron Stars and if my direction is wrong any pointers would be gratefully recieved

Hey Cmdr's

Names Eric - look about Space is my Game

That said - I have about 350hrs ingame, using x56 Controller and my HTC Vive - life is good, well goodish - life in Elite seems for me to go from Omy God this is awesome give me more - to what do that again, and again and o look again (this all happens in one 3 hour sessions lol). So getting to the point of my post in this ere forum. I decided a few weeks back to go and explore outside the bubble, go and take a look at all the wonderous things I keep reading about on this forum. put my mark onthe game and settle into Elite Fame by finding something everyone has been looking for :)

Fitted out a Ship, poked a sharp bit into the Galaxy Map (1000LY from Rhea) and just left, no goodbyes, no tears and I even forgot to pay the Bar Bill. Finally got out of the bubble - boy doesn't it get dark out here.
The trip went well, btw 1000LY is a long way for us beginners - I stopped in every system, scanned and landed on planets that I thought would be good - and this is where it all started to fall apart. I read this part of the forum nearly everyday - trying to get the imnofmation or undertsand the information being passed by all you Cmdrs but I am failing badly

What I know so far (which isn't much but)
Scoopable Starts - A-M
You can now filter by these Starts in the Map (to help you with fuel scooping)
Landing - only been on low G worlds so far - tobe hoinest I am not even sure I have found High G world but running aroud in my SRV is fun - got the hang of the Radar and finding Planet stuff is quite easy if not laborious.
My main problem is - I land in a system, Scan it using my Advanced Scanner - then open up System MAp and look at the Planets to see fi 1: they ahve been claimed, 2: If they look interesting - I then if 1 or 2 is a yes, go and scan the planet - check out its resources and if a good one - land and run around finding stuff
My problem being the system map - how do I tell by looking it if the 14,000LS is worth the trip to scan a planet, how do I know the big planet at the top with rings around it will yeld a good scan or the possibilty of a good find with the planets attached underneath the big planet - they all look alike in the System Map
just cause
Are there any places I should go looking to find stuff - for example - last night I flew the 1000LY to the California Nebula just cause it looked nice on the map, now I am going to just keep going and try and find stuff

So please, if you guys have any ideas, sweet words of wisdom or just plan information - let me know

Regards
Cmdr Eric Hunt

A funny but probably based on truth bit of advice I read once was: Honk! Scan da blue ones.

Being a non-pro explorer, too, please excuse me if I ask a question here... My question would be why would I bring an SRV on an exploration trip? Ok, the fun and the sights, I get that, but once you really get GOING, I'm not stopping for a drive. So, is there something extraordinary to find and is there a clue where to look? Last time I dragged the darn SRV some 3.5 kLY and only going out once.

You should check the sticky thread "Neutron fields Guide" which provides coordinates for the farming fields...
Haven't checked your actual position, but if you just want to see some NS, you may filter the GalMap for NS only and check around 1000 Ly "under" your location, where often can be found some...

And there you go - Wisdom (now why the hell didn't I think of that (Bloody Noob))

Well, I can only speak for myself - and as we all know - i am new to this Deep Dark but I have 2 SRV's with me (you never know, when the Black madness gets me I might be able to use my split personality to drive both at once). I use the SRV's to look for Matts and also to have a look for Gysers, volcanic stuff and generally break the ice from scanning and have a good old bouncy bouncy as fast as I can over rough surfaces.
