Finally got to try it out tonight and had one crash due to a respawn (anacondas not too bothered by class 1 weapons it would seem!), and that was in 3 hours of play (3 till 6am gmt).
Quite a few commanders online too but probably no more than 4 at a time - no lag and no framerate issues. Couple of these were definitely from the US which was causing me a lot of lag in 3.0 (in the 3 connections I had out of a hundred tries

Pretty good experience all round with the exception of docking clearance shenanigans and Impeccable Defence weirdness!
Very promising in terms of the closeness of beta imo; though obviously not everyone is having the same experience so we shall have to see on that front!
But the overall experience is forming into a tangible whole.
Where the last 2 segments felt very disjointed, leading to much debate about balance that couldn't be judged and resolved due to context; alpha 3 builds them into something more complete with continuity and repercussion from session to session and area to area.
Discussion just lost a variable!
Obviously there's an awful lot more to discuss now too so I don't imagine resolution will come any easier
