New AMD OMEGA drivers Warning!!!

Just a warning that with the new AMD Omega driver update when you frameshift (Hyperdrive/warpdrive) the game drops frames to 10 FPS. Unsure if this is just my system but it was running at 60 FPS (Locked to V-sync) with everything on high, ultra, AA etc... now when i try to fly anywhere my FPS starts to drop to 30 then when up to speed down to around 10.

If anyone else is experiancing this problem please let me know so i can rule out my system and hardware having problems or if there is a fix for something like this please share.

Forever fly dangerously and fast o7

I'm on 14.12 drivers, with a HD7770 graphics card and had no problems. I will check with my other AMD friends though, just in case and thanks for the heads up.

I don't have this experience with the Omega drivers. The fps drops for a bit (with a little stutter) when entering hyperspace, but to my knowledge it always did this. I use the new Omega drivers to upscale my 1080p screen to a 1440p resolution with the ultra preset in the game options; it's looking pretty good and my framerate is pretty consistantly at 60fps (r9 290x). I do however suffer from the microstutter in this thread (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=65415&highlight=micro+stutter), which is a pretty pain in the behind. It makes things look less fluid and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do in the settings to lessen it. But this also happened before the omega drivers... so thats not the problem.

There have been over 2 million downloads of AMD's Omega drivers this week - if there was an issue with them and Elite then we'd have heard about it before now.

I've been using the driver for the past week and not experienced a single mishap. You are the first issue I've seen actually.

(likely) fix - New user cant post links

I just had AMD pop up to download a new driver update. i thought it said 14.13 but i guess i was wrong. Just checked the drivers installed and it says Driver Version = 14.501.1003.0. Something weird has happened since i cant find anything online about the update. I just remember seeing the AMD driver installer run before restarting the computer.

Eitherway whatever it was it has caused major FPS drops in the game.

Hey dude I've noticed this issue to however I don't think its a driver issue at all. But I noticed after dropping the settings to low and removing the orbit lines it runs much smoother. It would be great if AMD would release some OCULUS support and E:D support. I'm forced to upgrade to an Nvidia card now.

Did you do a clean manual uninstall install of the old driver with DDU? I ask this because sometimes simply updating the driver through CCC can leave little bits of old driver gunk (the technical term) on your PC, which can impact performance.

Have you been in different systems? Since since updating your driver? I ask this, because this game has always been strongly affected by player traffic while in supercruise. I can go from 250FPS in empty anarchy systems down to about 50-40FPS in busy systems with lots of players, with my head-look handling like I'm nodding through treacle, and even in systems with lots of NPCs I take a hit down to 80FPS. This is with a i5-4690K at stock boost, 8Gb ram, running on an SSD with a Sapphire Vapor-X OC R9 290. This has been the case pre and post driver update to 14.12.

Works fine on my HD7870. I installed the new drivers when I changed my PC so I can't compare the performance with the old drivers.

I am getting exactly the same issues as OP and others.

At first it was barely noticeable and not enough for me to care, now however it's to the point that it's intolerable... Too risky coming out of FSD at a dwarf star for me to ignore this anymore.

Very similar set up here to what Phrygian has, with the exception that my 4690k has been overclocked to 4.5ghz and my r9 290 is the powercolor PCS+.

If anyone has a potential fix for this would love to hear it... google is not currently providing much information.

Thanks!
