NEW AND IMPROVED Missions Suggestion.

BETTER MISSIONS. NEW MISSION TYPES.

I am in favor of LESS missions BUT MORE REWARDING missions. For the none trading mission types. I feel like Cargo and Passenger missions are pretty good, once you get around tycoon or broker you probably aleady have a large ship so the payouts there are balanced. You can't really make them more fun because they are sorta the "meat and potato's" mission type. Every space game has em, they are there to make you some money and are easy to do but but not the most interesting.

But Scanner missions, combat missions, assassinations, "Go find me this thing" missions are a bit boreing and grindy.

-Scanner missions, make the bases MUCH bigger and instead of the square "trespassing" thing. Have skimmers patrol and turrets with line of sight mechanics. Make it so you have to avoid them to avoid being detected to reach the data point. Make the missions offer MUCH bigger payouts but they would take longer to complete.

-Assassin missions, Make them pay a lot more since they take a lot of time to do. Target at higher combat levels should be in a combat ship with a weak escort. Like a anaconda with two eagles. I was also thinking also having a variant called "High Risk: Assassination" WHere the target is in a base of sorts. HE would be flying a weak ship but would be heavily guarded by patrols. PLayers could use silent running to get to him or risk a frontal attack.

-Massacre Missions, honestly I am not sure how to improve upon them. They are pretty fine at the moment, go blow up some ships and get paid. Only suggestion would be to increase the payout for large ones and reduce mission stacking. The state of these missions largely depend on the state of combat more than format.

I feel like longer more interesting missions are more fun than short lived "GO to point A do the easy to do thing. Go back to station."

NEW MISSION SUGGESTIONS

-Blockade Run.
A high risk mission for traders and haulers. A battle is going on, enemy ships are fighting freindly ships. There is cargo sitting in the middle of the battle. GRab the cargo, (which makes ships turn hostile and attack you) and get the heck out before they destroy you! High risk but should be fun and offer a good chunk of credits for the risk.

-Blockade Run Passenger Edition.
Pick up passengers (Soldiers, rebels, medics, ETC) and transport them to a battlefeild. Land at a specfic point on a planet while ground defences and possible ships try to stop you. The landing point itself should be safe though, maybe have some freindly defences around it to cover you once you reach it.

-High Risk Mining.
Rumor has gotten out of a astroid full of Diamonds or Painite. Problem is, a lot of people have heard about it. Get to the astroid and mine it, but you have a limited time before hostile ships jump and attack you on sight for your cargo! Get in, mine the cargo, escape the hostiles.

-Capital ship attack
An enemy capital ship has been spotted with a small escort. Go in with and assist freindly NPC's with routing it! (High risk should have high pay out.)

Conclusion: I feel like these would bring some much needed life into the game. Instead of the current missions of "DO what you were aleady doing. GO to Point A and do basic thing. Come back."

Brilliant ideas... :)

Your Blockade ideas also got me thinking about humanitarian missions as well:

  • Rescue civilians from a planetary base that's occupied by hostile forces
  • Get through a blockade to deliver food and medical supplies to a base

There's other stuff too: natural disasters (remember the "Sun is going nova!!!" mission from the original Elite?), disease outbreaks, that kind of thing.

Being a pretty nonviolent guy, I'd like to do some humanitarian missions and be a bit of a hero from time to time...

The nova thing sounds awesome but more like a CG rather than a single mission. Would be pretty intense. Mass panick and flight from a system, pirates taking advantage, bounty hunters trying to stop them. Maybe specail conflict zones where mass pirates attacking cargo and passenger ships while police and bounty hunters try to stop them! Would make for some great player interaction.

Trust me, it was pretty intense on the ZX Spectrum!

As a CG in Elite Dangerous it would doubtless be a whole new kettle of mayhem :) Wow...

Oddly I just replied to another thread that connects nicely with this one here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/373712-Red-Super-Giant-Betelgeuse, where CDR Ddraig makes a suggestion about rendering Betelgeuse in accordance with current observations.

Betelgeuse is the ruddy great big orange star in Orion's armpit, about 600LY away, that's probably going to do the big number at some point... :D

-Massacre Missions, honestly I am not sure how to improve upon them. They are pretty fine at the moment, go blow up some ships and get paid. Only suggestion would be to increase the payout for a LARGE ones and remove mission stacking. INstead of taking 4 missions to kill 20 ships each for a total of 10 mil. Just have a mission to kill 90-100 ships for 10 mil. Less exploity and easier to get into. Really the state of these missions depends on the state of combat.

This is largely how the system works now, once you get a faction to Allied. I, somewhat regularly, get offered 20 mil contracts to destroy 100 ships. If you want higher paying contracts, rep the faction(s) up.

I believe missions in general are receiving a pass with 2.4, you suggestion to remove stacking is being implimented already. I agree Assassination missions should pay more for the larger targets, 600K is pretty weak for taking out an Elite Conda just doesn't compare to CZ runs.
