Newcomer / Intro New and Looking for Other Players

HI!

I'm still pretty new to the game and still learning about lots of things. I think it's really fun and I would love to get into lots more aspects of it. So far I have mostly been doing cargo missions back and forth.

As awesome as the game itself seems, my biggest problem with things is that it has felt very lonely and empty. I'm not sure if I've even really seen another player anywhere at all yet in open play. For me to stay into it for long I know that I'm going to need to find some kind of social aspects to it too. I have read about player factions and groups but I don't totally understand how they work or what to look for in a group.

Ideally I would like to find a group that welcomes new players and is active, also maybe that is either independent or supports the alliance. I would really appreciate any suggestions!

I am fairly new myself, been playing about a month and a half now. I have been getting the itch to wing up lately too, but don't know anyone IG or RL to play with.

I enjoy long murdering rampages in Res's, devouring the souls of interdicting pirates, and am a frequent visitor of Robigo and Sothis.

My two main ships at the moment are my long range smuggling AspX and my Trading Python. Neither are exceptional in combat as I'm more geared for pulling down credits at the moment.

If you want to hit me up in game (PC)

I don't talk so much in person, I just tend to ramble in forums.

Howdy,

you'd want to be looking over here in the groups section: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/65-Dangerous-Groups

Find one that suits you and fire off a few messages to members. There's a few Alliance groups about, some focussed on trading/mining/combat. Lots and lots of indy groups.

Just check you know what you are signing up for, generally my checklist is:
Activity
Platform
Timezones active
Number of players
Misc items (Allegiance etc)
Communication methods
Rules (Ensure there's no rules about minimum time in game expected etc). Most groups are flexible and drop-in/drop-out style but some especially the heavily PvP groups have sessions they like to enforce everyone attends so they can work on tactics etc.

First, let me welcome you to the Elite: Dangerous Galaxy. My rule 2 is; Have Fun (it is just a game, but WHAT a GAME!).

The learning curve is so steep that the mountain goats go around in teams, roped together (and even then they may fall off, but that means the Vultures get to eat!). However, when you master something, and do it well, the buzz is worth the effort.

Now, Rule 1, which is; Never Fly if you cannot cover the REBUY. REBUY is the insurance excess on your ship, and is 5% of the value of your ship (including all upgrades, but not the cargo). If you get killed, and you can cover the REBUY, you will get a replacement ship identical to the one you lost. However, if you cannot cover the REBUY you may well end up back in a basic Sidewinder. Please do not let this happen to you, as the forum is littered with tales of woe when other Players have ignored Rule 1, and then got killed. This links to the latest I have seen;

When you decide to buy a new ship, try to have 200% of the purchase price first. That way you have enough for the ship, some basic outfitting, a couple of loads of cargo, and a couple of REBUYs (just in case). If you are trading in a ship, take it back to factory spec first. When you sell any ship you will always take a 10% hit on the value of the ship at the time of selling. However, if you take it back to factory spec first you get back the full amount that you paid for the upgrades (at this time, at least). Then, when you sell the ship, your losses will be reduced. For example, I have an A Rated Cobra MkIII worth 10Mcr. If I were to sell her now I would take a loss of 1Mcr. However, if I take her back to factory spec and then sell her my loss will be about 35Kcr.

Have fun, fly safely, and see you out amongst the stars. Feel free to ask any questions, we all had to learn somewhere, and those that care will answer all they can.
