New and Secondhand ships

They seem to be wide customisations to the internal components of any ship but there seems to no method of customising the standard hull - apart from adding and removing armour.

It would nice to see "new" ships to standard specifications as we get at the moment available in lots of placing around the bubble and further afield. It would also be nice to see "secondhand" ship that are "offspec" - the "offspec" items could be customisations that the previous owners have made to their ships: -
Different internal configurations - nothing too advantageous. eg. Lost of cargo space for bigger FSD, PP. Fewer hardpoints = lower hull mass etc,
It could also include old different paint jobs standard colours - (that would of course be lost on the application of a new one.)
The Ships could come with partly engineered components in various states of repairs / or Standard / or the bare minimum and the hull wouldn't be at 100% or a mix of all sorts.
Price would be a reflection of state of repair / rarity / usefulness. (some configurations would be mostly useless, others would be good for certain professions.)

Might be a of a pig to balance - but then perhaps they shouldn't be. They would be available at edges of the bubble at low tech stations / ports. Would give rise to a greater number of "different" ships.

I would like to see this option and this change would add a unique aspect to obtaining ships and an element of the unknown when approaching other ships where implemented to both NPCs and human controlled units.

If you buy a secondhand car many will have owner adaptations and their own characteristics, so I don't see why ships wouldn't be this way too. It may also make some ships more affordable, but perhaps with good reason.

I like this idea, too. Nothing overly complicated needs to happen. Things like:

The FSD size goes up by 1 but the power plant goes down by 1 (a balance, you get more jump range, but have a hard time fitting powerful weapons). Possibly it would have to be a 2-for-1 thing to keep balance, like FSD goes up by 1 but PP and PD both go down by 1.

The other option I could see (for used ships), have some of the more expensive ship available on the used market for a much lower price, but also inferior. Like an Anaconda that is 50% less expensive but lacks the huge hard point and half the utility slots.

There was a trading game I used to play called Escape Velocity Nova that had regular and second hand ships. The Second Hand ships came in cheaper and more-expensive. The pricier ones were generally better (like good engineering). If I remember correctly, they had quirks to balance the better-ness.

I like the idea, but....if we can then buy modded 2nd hand ships, why can't we MOD them ourselves? IE, why can't I unlock the special effect or whatever to increase my FSD slot by 1 at the cost of power or whatever?
