new asp owner looking for help outfitting....

this may be repost as I think I messed up first try. if so delete one please.

want max cargo with weapons to defend. not done any combat so far so somewhat lost. all help appreciated.

All internals with max cargo units apart from 1 class 3 shield type A.

All other componants class A apart from class D scanner and life support.

2 chaff

2 x class 2 beam lasers (gimbled or fixed up to you)

4 x what ever class 1 weapons (cannons, multis or missiles)

If you can put on 2 shield booster with available power go for it although won't make too much difference with class 3 shields.

Should have 120t cargo and a decent defense, but don't get involved in a proper fight. Boost and get away with your chaff.

I had this when I first had the Asp and can make some good money trading.

hmmm. I seem to be able to only get 88T cargo not 120T. must not be understanding your post completely. here is what I have:

power plant A3
thrusters A4
FSD A4
life support D4
power dist A4
sensors B5
fuel t ank C5
cargo E6 (cap 64)
shield g en A3
cargo e2 (cap 4)
cargo E3 (cap 8)
cargo E3 (cap 8)
cargo E2 (cap 4)
basic scanner E1

You a lacking a 16 bay slot somehow as far as I remember, try out Eliteshipyard, and get it right.

Cheers Cmdr's

nope. I put above into shipyard. if I give up scanner I can add 4 cargo and if I give up the fuel scoop (not listed above) I get 4. this would give me 92 tops. but fuel scoopo seems a must and the scanner not so much unless I am missing something else. so 88 tops with scoop and 92 without. sigh. I may certainly be missing something with the other stuff but not sure what it would be

Ok I stand corrected, I must remember wrong then.
Anyways above kitout is ideal for Rares trade :)
Fly safe CMDR and good luck with the Asp, its a nice ship.

You need to put your size 3 shields in the size 3 internal component slot. Remove the scanner. Scoop is definitely optional if you are just doing simple trading with your cargo, just buy fuel at stations, it's cheap. Or if you really want one, get only a size 2 scoop and use the size 2 slots.

ty that got me to 108 (112) if I drop fuel scoop) nice! thanks to all who helped. will look at other posters setup before settleing.

yup that did it. 116 cargo with fuel scoop. 120 without. lower class fittings in some places but..... will try it. again, thanks t o all of you for help. saved me a ton of cr also. always good.... if I survive that is. :)

OK, I've been flying an Asp for a couple of weeks now.

Without down-grading the shield setup, I have 92t cargo space. Basically, the class 3 and class 2 slots can take cargo racks, 8t for the class 3 slots and 4t for the class 2. I have not replaced the BDS as I am getting some decent money from exploring in the core systems - wherever I have to use a waypoint on my way to a trade system.

I have finally got enough weapons for a good defence
2 gimballed beams in the medium hardpoints - primary fire
2 gimballed pulse in the small hardpoints - secondary fire
2 fixed multi-cannons in the other smalls - secondary fire

Also have 2 shield reinforcements in utility mounts and a point-defence system. I have hardened alloy hull, as I could not afford the Military Composite (5M+) and the mirrored or the other one were over 14M , so way out of my league!

If you want to explore outside the core sytems, you will need a different setup and a fuel scoop is only needed if you are going places without any stations. Fuel is available even on platforms where there is no commodities market (afaik).

That is another advantage, apart from a Type 6, the Asp is the largest ship that can land on a platform.

For combat, use thrusters as well as moving the nose to get your enemy where you want him. Gimballed weps are useful for ripping thru shields, but fixed are always more powerful but much harder to aim and hit.

The Asp is expensive to kit out with all A modules costing over 5M. but with my C FSD and power plant I can do just under 15ly fully laden.

PS just waiting for the Courier to come with 1.3m, but will need more money before I can buy one (no prices yet, but I'm sure it will cost more than an Asp

PPS current insurance cost c477,000

Just read this carefully and you will make money with ASP

Load all internals with max level cargo racks and exclude shield generator for extra space

buy best FSD you can at the moment and 6 gimballed pulse lasers

If you get interdicted just submit and instantly run you wont loose hull at all

Cheers and happy flying commander

unless you get interdicted by a wing .. can you say "mass locked?"

Currently, mass lock will only affect you if you try to jump back in to supercruise. You can jump to another system normally.

The bigger risk I've encountered is being interdicted while in a tight turn on station approach. Even though I submitted immediately, the fact that I'm turning gets interpreted as an emergency stop from sc. Not only has my ship been damaged but I had to wait the longer 30 second fsd cooldown. I escaped but that 30 seconds seemed longer. On a trader Asp, I downgrade to a size 3 shield and you still get 120t of cargo. Shields also provide some protection from mishaps at the stations.

If you are doing the rare item runs then I would have a fuel scoop.

However I would put it in the class 5 slot and keep saving up for the best you can. This will make the journeys much quicker.
Would put you down to 88t cargo but you won't fill this up with rare items as you are not offered many per station.

If you are doing normal trading I would get rid of the scoop as the fuel tank is massive and keep 120t cargo.

Going no shield is up to you, however I would not recommend. It will cost over 2 million to replace the ship and all your cargo of palladium.

I had to do that a couple of times and it sets you back.

You will find great prices for cargo by using the jump range to your advantage. Scout out trade routes nearing your max range. Many other ships drive the prices down on local routes.
