New AX Weapons aren't cool enough.

Something to bear in mind, Fdev, is that the traditional AX weapons just aren't very cool.

A big part of why the original Salvation weapons are fun is because they're really cool. Even the gatling gauss, despite being mediocre, is still cool in how it operates, and the shards and plasmas are cool glowy blue plasma.

By contrast, the ax weapons are quite boring, basically the most standard weapons to exist, and therefore just aren't that fun to use. If you're going to keep going for them, I'd invite you to make the modifications for them cooler.

For example, maybe a missile rack that shoots a bunch of missiles at once with some spread and the missiles swerve around a bit. Alternatively, a multicannon that has a windup so you need to hold the trigger for a bit before it reaches its max fire rate, but then shoots really really fast.

By making these weapons more cool, they could be more fun, and fun is a big part of having them be enjoyable to use, not just raw stats.

Well the general reason you can't have stupidly overpowered weapons in this game (energy bombs, lore accurate plasma accelerators etc.) is because they'd be ridiculous against other players.

However- AX damage based weapons are next to useless at damaging other players, so here we have a section of the game fenced off perfectly for ship mounted BFG 9000s and other things that make big, satisfying explosions.

Personally I'm happy that the AX multicannons are getting some love because it makes them a better starting weapon for people who haven't got the guardian stuff. Still makes them a starting weapon IMO.

While I mostly agree, I have to say that the newest Azimuth sponsored Pre-Engineered AX Multicannons are nowhere near a "starting weapon", if only because they need to be unlocked on a single per-item basis on a tech broker, with lots of materials that can only be farmed from Thargoids themselves. So they cannot be purchased by novice AX pilots just getting into the fray...

Yeah, I'm probably thinking more about where they should be, opposed to where they are. If it's a choice of fetching a bunch of stuff for doing upgrades for AX gameplay, multicannons would be the last on my list because they should be the starter weapon.

I mean, we can get long range plasma chargers. I'm not spending time upgrading multicannons when those exist.

no cool, only dakka!
i personaly like that elite is keeping the organic sim-like vibe instead of the fortnite no mans sky silly cartoon.
right now there are solid, hard, down to earth human weapons as well as cool, flashy and glowy guardian ones. balance of the cosmos is mantained.
you just wait when we will start adapting thargoid stuff :p

Not withstanding earlier discussions about eliminating the AX damage type in favor of AP, they should have added an experimental modification to convert existing human-tech weapons to AX functionality a long time ago.

There is... actual cytoscramblers. Their shields work exactly the same as human shields, you don't need AX weapons to take them down.
Yea, my AX challenger has 3 LR cytos for deleting thargoid shields so my modshard buddies can delete their hull.

But the panic shield mechanic sometimes gets in the way. 😮‍💨

im a stubborn winters boi...

A better remote flack cannon would be great. Outpost battles would become a bit easier.
Either that or PDS that targets thargoid swarms and missiles.
If we could get a new weapon that opens the hydra's hearts in 2 or 3 shots, that'd be tops.

I think there's a perfectly achievable middle-ground here. Take a look at recent Armored Core 6 trailers for weapons done "holy shiznit awesome" without being cartoonish. I appreciate the scale is smaller but I think there's some "cool" lessons to be learned about sci-fi weaponry
