New barnacle field not showing up in my nav panel. Anybody else having this problem?

Just wondering if anyone else is having a problem getting the new barnacle to actually show up in the nav panel. Here's what happened to me:

So I went to Hyades Sector (something something forgot what it was, on phone now) to check out the new barnacle forest thing. Instead of just heading straight for the coords, I decided to scan one of the uplinks at the Thargoid structure and see how it revealed the location of the barnacle. I scanned it and then went back up into SC, looked in my nav panel and it wasn't there. So I started flying towards the planet and when I pointed my ship at the planet the little targetable circle thing labelled "thargoid barnacle" popped up. I double checked my nav panel and it wasn't in there. I thought that was strange, and decided not to fly over to it just yet, and started doing other stuff in other places.

I went back to the system a little later to go check it out, but this time the barnacle wasn't showing up at all, neither in my nav panel nor when I pointed my ship at the planet. Oh well I thought, and headed towards it anyway, thinking it would pop up when I came to 1000ls from the planet. Well, I arrived at the planet and still nothing. Determined to get this system working (moreso than actually just going to look at the barnacles), i hyperjumped out and back into the system, headed to the Thargoid structure to scan an uplink once more, but then couldn't find any besides the one I scanned the first time and it wouldn't let me send it again.

Has this happened to anyone else or is this some kind of bug that nobody else has encountered yet? I want to go find more barnacle fields but I don't really know how the mechanism of finding them works because of this.

Take an SRV to the barnacle field. Jump into your SRV and scan one of the barnacles with the SRV's scanner, then the barnacle field should show up in your Navigation Panel. o7

EDIT: On returning to the barnacle forest I can confirm you need to be within 1000 LS before the (scanned) barnacle site will appear. o7

Yep, I did the barnacle scan yesterday in my SRV, and they appeared in my Nav Panel.

It's the center part of the barnacle site you need to scan, not the spires.

Where is this barnie field? Is this the one in Hyades Sector AQ-Y D81 c2? 130 thousand something LS out?

EDIT: Nevermind, answered my own question. It's quite beautiful out here and I am finding lots of materials, not having to farm the spikes, plenty of fairly rich outcrops around and apparently this planet is 1.1% Tellurium, also finding Mercury, Vanadium, Phosphorus, sulfur, iron, etc and not even touching the spikes, this is all from outcrops in the area. For some reason there is a system defense force ship circling a nearby wreck in which I could find nothing for it to be guarding . . . o7

Right right I get that, but the barnacle field was found by scanning the uplink at the Thargoid structure in that system. After the uplink was scanned, the barnacle showed up in the nav panel. Supposedly this is how we are to locate them, which is what I'm trying to do. After scanning the uplink it was visible for me but only if I manually aimed at it and targeted, but didn't show up in the nav panel, and didn't show up at all after I left so I'm just trying to figure out the intended behavior on these. I guess I'll file a bug report and see what I can figure out.

It was allegedly found by doing that.

Specifically what was said was:

Barnacles are similar, once they are scanned they also show <1000ls so was likely the same effect, but Barnacles require scanning before giving a nav target. Something else had caused the nav data of the barnacles to be gained.

Eliminating the UL possibility, the US site in that system was most likely culprit. Uplinks had been scanned and the Thargoid barnacle nav marker was noticed after.

Most likely != definitely. I did exactly the same thing and got the same result. In all likelihood, scanning the uplinks has no effect, and the cause for them appearing was something else which we don't have pinned down yet. That, or it was from scanning other uplinks, possibly not in that system.

Personally, I think it's coincidental, and because the guy in that post does a lot with barnacles, it's more likely a by-product of scanning a barnacle somewhere along the way that revealed other barnies.

You have to actually physically visit the barnacle in an SRV and scan it from the SRV. Once the barnacle has been scanned from the SRV the barnacle site will show in the NAV panel when you are in the system and you will be able to navigate directly to it. Still a good idea to bookmark the system since the barnie will only show in NAV when you are in-system, you might have to be nearby the planet as well. o7

It could just be like a temporary flag goes up until you visit and scan the barnacle because it DEFINITELY showed up as a target in space 130k ls away for me directly after scanning an uplink. I was about to fill out the bug report but then reread panpipers account more carefully noting he never specifically said it showed up for him in the actual nav panel after scanning the uplink and a couple people that have said that it is in the nav panel had already visited at that point (I think)

My guess for the process:
1. Scan an uplink
2. Look around in space for a "thargoid barnacle" target.
3. Don't leave the system, go straight to the barnacle.
4. Scan to have the location saved for future visits.

Whether or not that is the intended behavior, I'm not sure. I'm gonna return and give it another shot in the next couple days probably.
