Hardware & Technical New Card New Monitor

Ok guys, seeing as the new gtx900 series is on its way, I am expecting the old 770-780's to drop dramatically in price.

There is a 4gb gtx770 I am currently looking at (Palit GTX 770 Jetstream 4GB model?? cant remember) that is just shy of 300 quid, now after a bit of reading and seeing that clearly games that use BELOW full hd 1920x1080 will only ever use max of 2gb vram.

With this in mind I am contemplating a new larger monitor (but not ridiculous 29"+) that will make the card seem more of a natural choice and use more than the usual 1.4-6 gb vram (and be a bit more future proof).

With the graphics card comfortably settled on I am wondering if you guys could recommend a great monitor or around the 300 quid mark?

oh... and it HAS to have at least 120hz refresh ready for NVidia 3d vision :)

EDIT: Do any of you guys use 3d?
What kind/size of monitors do you use?
Does lcd/plasma/led matter, as space is black does the quality show/matter?
Thanks for any input you can give

I think recently I got an ASUS GTX780 3GB for £350, if they drop in price I may look into SLI and a 4k monitor.

I also got a 27 inch 1920x1080 Asus screen for £190 or so? I'm not sure if "good" 1440 screens and above will drop into your £300 budget so 1080 might be the way to go?

Yeh was thinking the same, im more concerned about the refresh rate as im hoping I can use me 3d vision kit with the game when its released, as its not supported well at the moment.

a 4k screen would be too much for my setup, as the desk depth is only about 4 ft and the monitor I think would be limited to the HD sizes 1080p/I

thanks, ive never though of an AMD card as I bought for the 3d vision and the PhysX, if it comes down to price/performance battles I will consider it and sell the 3d vision stuff, but its used regurly with other games

Thanks for your input.

On the high end cards, probably because they're not high volume, it doesn't often happen - not dramatically anyway - but no harm in keeping your eyes open.

On this rig, I'm just running a single GTX680 with triple 1920x1600's (in game res, 5760x1200).

Other than the galaxy map, the bezel doesn't really affect much, and currently I've just been trading, so FPS hasn't been an issue, mind you it runs around 20 in a station and 60 outside.

That being said, I have a 780 in my Steam box that I've been tempted to pull out and swap over, but only if I could get another. Currently all my normal distributors are out of stock.

Oh, and 1080 needs to die, in a fire :p

That's a nice rig, surprised the 680 can run 3 monitors at them resolutions. very surprised you have a steam box already, didn't know they were released yet as the OS hasn't been finished.

Hats off to you sir

EDIT: the 4gb version, I see what you did there, what does it look like?, is it full panoramic?, how large are the gaps between the screens?

what screens are you using?
how much would they be today?

I'm running a R9-280x 3G card and took the leap and bought the new Sumsung 4k monitor........works a treat and 4k is awesome.....

Ran factions no problems and I am hoping.......if work will let me.....to get on tonight and check out some of the combat areas around Dahan and Eranin....

But overall very happy with it and my cards performance......
