New career: transporter

I'm sure it's been discussed but I think a possible new role in Elite could be as a ship transport. If a CMDR wants a ship brought to them, another CMDR can "take the job (for credits obviously, probably fairly high paying) to move it. the transport should be able to steal the ship at a cost of an absurdly large bounty and be randomly interdicted as in smuggling runs. If the ship is destroyed by authorities or other means (docking mishap, combat, whatever), the transporter pays the insurance and the cmdr who wanted it moved gets their cress back and the ship back where it started. I'm sure other neat mechanics could be built in as well. this career could potentially lead to more human interaction which, in this game, couldn't hurt.

Park ship, get on passenger ship, have a cocktail, put feet up, arrive at destination, get in stored ship.

Head on over to Galileo or M Gorbachev in Sol. They have pina coladas and palm trees.

Some potential fun:
- hire a human transporter
- park your ship in a transporter ship (best to have a ridiculous expensive ship)
- ask a friend to attack and destroy the transport ship
Free insurance, free fun and the transporter guy will ask himself what he does wrong. And yeah this career will lead to more human interaction, that's for sure.

Do you really think I am going to trust a human peasant to transport My Millennium Falcon from point A to B? you humans could barely park your car overnight on the side of the street without getting robbed. No thank you, I rather take my business to the thargoids.

Yes. It happens in EVE on a near daily basis. Sucker born every minute. :) Far more lazy and entitled folks here which means it'd be joyriding heaven.

Suppose joyriding was somehow not possible, how much would cmdrs ask me to transport my FDL 300 LY? And how would any number be simultaneously worth it to them and me?

Not a new suggestion, it's quite common but your exact idea is a bit different so here I am responding :S

A few issues:
1) So in a new account I can offer to move someones cutter, steal it and fly to Sag A* for a few weeks. When I come back the bounty is gone into a legacy fine. I sell the ship, pay the fine and profit?
Sounds a bit silly since my new account can be re-set at will so if I mess up I can just try again.

2) Oh and: Lets borrow a Corvette, go bounty hunting for millions of credits and then deliver it a touch damaged but I've made many times what I'd have been able to in a sidewinder.

3) Then there's: Here, move my ship, it has 3Ly range... Good luck.
Or no weapons or shields and lowest rated gear.
Or not enough power to use thrusters.

Solution imo:
If it were to be implemented then I'd vote for a 100% insurance option where the transferrer pays a set amount of credits based on ship value, ship type, jump range and distance. Say 1% or something like that. But pays no repair, fuel or insurance costs. Mission has a time limit, if not completed within the limit the ship self-destructs. No credits can be gained whilst transferring except the fee being paid, hardpoints do not deploy unless fired upon first.
Ranked so that the transporter can only transport certain values of ships so can't take a Corvette/Anaconda with a new account and earn 8mil per trip.

Covers costs for both sides, exploits and people trying to annoy others. Yes it means you can't steal ships but that can be developed later when adequate control methods get thought up. Missions quit before leaving the station don't reduce rank, missions quit afterwards do (hence avoiding the number 3 sub-issues).

I don't think that is going to work for me.
Me: Take mission to deliver a Cutter, 1 million payout upon delivery without a scratch all right. Landing gear retracted.
Wife: Honey can you feed your daughter and change her diaper?
Me: Not now I am middle of making a delivery I only have 25 mins.
Wife: I don't give a      about your fake polygen spaceship, you better move before pull the plug.

Fair point but you can say that about any mission in Elite, and about pretty much any mission in any MMO. Tis the sad nature of online play without a pause button... Maybe make it so log-off pauses timers... Actually it may already be like that, it's been so long since I've done a mission I don't know :p
