New challenge: How far from Lave without refuelling

I've just been thinking...there's potential for a new challenge now that we have fuel-tanks...

How far can you get from Lave without refulling (no stations, no fuel-scooping)?
Of course, you must start from Lave to take part!

Let me know the CMDR name, ship/build (link to edshipyard.com or coriolis.io), the route taken (attached .txt file), the final destination, number of jumps, and distance from Lave reached.

How you make the return journey is up to you, extra credit if you pack a fuel scoop as well to make the trip back without losing the ship.

We take your word as your honour, but if anyone does check your route and finds you to be exaggerating, then we'll look down our noses with distain at you.

I will try and keep the list up to date in this post. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to try it myself right now, as I'm thousands of Ly away.

Good luck, and fly far CMDRs!

I had given some thought to the possibility of getting to Sag A* without a fuel scoop and did some testing in preparation for it last week. Sadly I've come to the conclusion that it's not going to be quite possible, not least because in the last patch they seem to have doubled the amount of fuel used for just running your ship. Even if it were possible, it would be an incredibly boring journey as you would need to run without scanners and couldn't waste time scanning anything even if you did carry them. And it would take well in excess of 5,000 jumps!

But if anyone's mad enough to try it, this is the ultimate long haul ship: http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=706,,2-3m8S9Y8S2CD88I,5JY5H_5H_5H_5GQ5GQ5GQ5Es5Es5Es5Bk. It's a little more practical to lose the last 3 tanks for a scoop & scanners! A 4A scoop will only take 23.5 minutes to refuel and you would only need to do that 2 or 3 times getting to Sag A* and back :D

Could we have a different point of origin? Not all of us are willing to earn a permit just to visit the cradle of humanity... :)

The Buckyball Run A* used Lomas Orbiter in Wolf 359 as an alternative for those without a Sol permit.

Nice challenge by the way. :)

Yup - thanks, I was trying to remember which system they used. I have updated the original post to reflect this.

I'm wondering if anyone truly hard-core will have a friend come and "rescue" them with fuel limpets... ;)

Hmm, having second thoughts - as the Buckyball Run A* was directing people in a specific direction, whereas we're not. Maybe I should just set the origin station to Lave to be fair to all? What do people think?

This sounds quite interesting given the ability to use internal space for fuel. I may use this as a starting point for my next expedition.

On starting point does Lave run a risk of too many PvPers? Somewhere outside of any power's influence too?

Not really, Lave is the starting point, and I guess you'll be jumping from right outside the station, and jumping directly from system to system doesn't leave much time for PVPers to impact you. On top of that, I don't see any reason to restrict players to Open play for this challenge (I don't see it making much difference as players will be jumping through systems so fast, no stopping to fuel-scoop etc, and any time spent delaying is just burning fuel for nothing).

Lave is also possibly the best known system that doesn't require a permit.

I am really curious to know how far people will get.
