General / Off-Topic New Cities: Skylines Expansion: “Snowfall

I hope it will come with new contents and not just weather features.
The last expansion was about day and night cycle, so yes there are some new system about circulation by night or day.
But it's was a bit expensive for just graphisms and not so plain system (hidden maybe for some).

I am throwing money at my computer screens, but nothing is happening. [praise]

Dynamic weather is a massive thing in computer gaming by the way. If they pull it off without extensive CPU/GPU taxing... I will be massively impressed.

Now if they added some natural disasters into the game such as tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes/typhoons as a part of this Snowfall expansion... oh man...

Snowfall will include:

  • Now is the Winter of This Content: Rain and fog for existing maps, plus a new “Winter” map theme with snow and all of its challenges.
  • The Streetcars You Desire: Expanded public transportation options, including easier management of existing lines – and Trams, a new system demanded by fans.
  • World Warmth, Too: Cold weather increases demands for electricity, unless new water-based heat systems are in place.
  • Plowers to the People: Build a snowplow depot to keep traffic flowing during winter weather, and employ new road maintenance systems to keep your streets in shape.

Now if they added some natural disasters into the game such as tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes/typhoons as a part of this Snowfall expansion... oh man...
That's what I thought at first, but unfortunately no ... That said : rain, fog, snow, a snowplow truck system, a tramway system, and a new map, is something.

But if this is at the same price as "After Dark" I would wait the steam summer sales, because I'm not a dairy cows. (and they will probably propose a "pack" with both DLC one day, I guess)

This Cities Skyline game from what I have read seems to be the best one available of this genre, but they do not really appeal to me, as I find they can get very complicated to keep on top of, once your city becomes really big. I think managing a Theme Park is enough for me, as well as getting lots of enjoyment designing my own parks. So I think Cities Skylines is great for those that enjoy it and I am sure the Snow Fall Expansion will add more to the game.

But Cities Skyline is definetly the best of this genre, I agree!
And Planet Coaster and Cities Skyline are not the the same kind of game. (Hopefully?)

No they are not the same kind of game. I am not suggesting that, I am just pointing out that City building games, aren't my cup of tea, but I do like Theme Park games, and yes, Cities:Skylines seems to be the best game of that genre from what I have seen of it.

I played cities:skylines 5 minutes. It's not really my game [blah]
What did you see from the game with 5 minutes ? [weird]

This reminds me of when I tested Minecraft for the first time. [big grin] I tried this game, alone, on the advice of a friend, for about 10/15 minutes. I called my friend, and I said "Really ? This game sucks, it is graphically the most ugly ever, no interest to collect wood and dirt" and he said "I know, but believe me, test for an hour, you'll see" and because it was my best friend, I tried again, to build more than a simple "house made of dirt", I tried mining, finding cave in the ground, and i found my first iron, and I realized that there was full of craft to discover, many monster that I dont know, that it was possible to be a farmer, an alchemist, a blacksmith, an explorer inside temples, mines, and other worlds. etc... etc...

Conclusion : I have played this game during more than 1000 hours (I dont even know how much time I spend on this game), and it was the best investment in my gamer life.

I'm (definitely) not saying it's the same with Cities:Skylines ... but 5 minutes is not enough to try a game. [yesnod]

You should play Terraria then. It's like that experience but more. [yesnod]

But on topic of Cities: Skylines, I probably won't purchase it. Mainly because I did not feel After Dark had the content to justify the cost. I'd be fine with it if I were playing the game more, because I like supporting developers, but I've not really played it that much sense I got After Dark. So not now, maybe if I pick up the game again I'd buy it.

It's already the case ! It's "less" in my case, but not because of the quality of the game (because Terraria is great), but just because the "old-school-pixel-art-2D" part that I dont like (something 100% personnal I guess)

I know but I had to wait to long. When I play a game I want to play and not wait untill I have money. That's the reason why I prefer Sandbox mode in RCT3! And the same in Minecraft. I like to build and not mine for a few hours. [squeeeeee]

Then go to the "mod" menu of Cities:Skylines and activate : Unlimited money !

Et voila ! [big grin]

Same with minecraft, with the "Creative Mode" (unlimited ressources)

Et voila x2 ! [big grin]
